Author bio:

Susannah Chambers is a publisher of children’s books at Allen & Unwin. She lives in Melbourne, but regularly dreams of the beach.

Mark Jackson is an illustrator based in Melbourne. He has co-illustrated several books with his wife, Heather Potter, and their work has been featured in several exhibitions. His books, including The Snow Wombat (written by Susannah Chambers), Waves (written by Donna Rawlins and co-illustrated by Heather Potter), Platypus (written by Sue Whiting), Bilby Secrets (written by Edel Wignell) and Stuck! (written by Charlotte Calder) have been shortlisted for multiple awards, including the Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Awards and the Children’s Book Council of Australia Awards.

  • Possum magic is timeless, appeals to all ages and is illustrated beautifully.

  • Wombat Stew – we love this as a family as we read it to the children when times were good and during the tough times. It always brought us together, we sang along to the chorus and remembered the message of helping each other.

  • Possum magic. I won the book when i was 8 years old and now i read it to my eight year old. I still have it!

  • Blinky Bill is brilliant. I’ve always loved the pictures and the storyline. Iconically Australian.

  • I adore Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes by Mem Fox. Beautifully written prose, so simple, so sweet with gorgeous illustrations.

  • We love I Don’t want to go to sleep, it is fun and a good story to tell because we are going through the same thing.

  • Possum magic – a classic tale of a native cute creature not often adored, a story now my nephews have enjoyed and explored! Fun, colour and appreciates our land, it’s one that each generation can love and understand.

  • My all time favourite would have to be possum magic. It is so cute & takes you through foods and places of australia. My kids love reading it with me now.

  • May Gibbs Snuggle pot and cuddle pie is an all time Australian classic that has been around for generations, my parents read it to me when I was a kid now I’m reading it to my two children 6yrs and 1yr old

  • One Wolly Wombat… yes it’s a simple counting book but it’s the one I remember best from when I was little. Uniquely Australian animals in familiar surroundings (like the beach). I can’t wait to give a copy to my little boy for his first birthday.

  • Our favourite books at the moment are our Bluey books. My boys will jump into bed that little bit early just so they can read the same book over and over each night for the next month.

  • I love possum magic, I loved it as a child and I love reading it to my son now.

  • Wombat stew by Marcia Vaughan. My son is obsessed with it as he loves wombats and actually wants one from Santa hahaha

  • Pig the Pug and MAGIC possum. my 4 year old loves these books and we read these alternate nights. the morals of the stories are very good.

  • Wombat Stew! Because it’s a funny story and has amazing pictures
