A mother has shared a heartbreaking video of her 18-month-old suffering from whooping cough, which he contracted after she stopped vaccinating him.

The video which has attracted nearly 90,000 shares and 5 million views, shows the little boy coughing and crying as he sits in his father’s lap. The boy coughs through the entire video and whimpers while clutching his dummy.

“This is a baby boy struggling to breathe and turning blue with every cough,” his mother Jessica Leigh Boren wrote on Facebook.

“Coughing for over a minute each time. Multiple times an hour. For 5 days. Getting worse by the second.”

Thankfully the latest update from his mum, Jessica, is that last night was finally little Brody’s first cough-free night & her first full night sleep, in two weeks!

Her full post has gone viral with thousands of comments, reactions and shares.

“This is Whooping Cough.
This is Brody. An 18 month old boy. Our 3rd child. Our first son.

“This is a mother that see’s “anti-vaxx” all over social media and becomes terrified. Unsure whether to give or not give vaccines (even though she did for both of her girls). Terrified to “pump her baby with poison”. Worried she’s harming her child. So she stops vaccinating after 6 months. (ETA: I tried “spacing them out” so he did not get all 3 shots.)

“This is a baby boy struggling to breathe and turning blue with every cough. Coughing for over a minute each time. Multiple times an hour. For 5 days. Getting worse by the second.

“This is my happiest child, unable to laugh without having a coughing spell.
This is 2 ER visits. Both times being sent home for a “viral infection”. (Bronchiolitis) Sent home with nothing. Being told there’s nothing that could be done.

“This is a Mothers Instinct. Research. Knowing her baby isn’t up to date on his vaccines. Having that gut feeling that it was Pertussis.

“This is a mother begging the doctors to test for it. Being told it was “too rare”, but finally saying they’d do the test anyways. Then being sent home & told she would get a call when the results came back.

“This is getting a call 30 mins after leaving the ER saying, “you need to bring your son back, he is positive for Pertussis & needs to be admitted immediately”.

This is fear.

“This is our son getting diagnosed with a deadly illness that could’ve totally been prevented.

“This is my baby boy being placed in a Bio-Hazard hospital room. With so many nurses and doctors, all of which were in gowns and masks.
This is my baby holding onto his mommy and daddy for dear life. Petrified of the people in scary masks and gowns.

“This is my baby being poked, prodded, x-ray’d, suctioned, connected to wires upon wires, unable to move and roam like a toddler desires.
This is 4 days of him not eating or drinking on his own. Having fluids pushed so dehydration wouldn’t add on to the list of problems.

“This is knowing your son could have this cough for up to 100 days and knowing there’s nothing you can do about it. No way to take away his pain. This is Pure Hell.

“This is guilt. Guilt of putting not only my son at risk, but my community too.
This is being a statistic that had to be reported to our county and surrounding counties, Health Care Association.

“This is being quarantined in our home for 5 days until the antibiotics run its course so we don’t put any other children, family or elderly in danger.

This is embarrassment.

“This is NOT bashing the “anti-vaxx” community. Nor placing blame or judgment on anyone. The decisions I made were MY decisions. Based purely on my lack of knowledge and fear. This is to show the consequences of not vaccinating my child correctly.

“This is our story. In hopes that our awful experience can help educate other families. Praying no other mom or dad ever have to witness their child endure this.

This is why you SHOULD vaccinate & protect your children.”

  • There is a good reason to have your child vaccinated when they are young. Such an ordeal for this young boy that could have been avoided if he was vaccinated – what a terrible way to find out you did wrong.

  • Pertussis is very scary – they can’t get oxygen in and as an adult, I know coughing can be exhausting

  • I don’t know how a parent can put a baby’s life at risk after so many tragic cases have been reported. It can be horrific enough trying to help a baby coughing continuously with severe croup.

  • I really hope her little boy is ok and recovers fully.

  • Aw poor baby !

  • They did do their research but you can put anything on the internet. Hopefully they learn their lesson and this poor child has no life long problems from this and now gets the vaccines!

  • This poor little darling. I wish parents did 5heir research and saw the benefits outweigh any negative so their kids don’t have to endure this. It was so hard to watch this video

  • Having suffered from whooping cough as an adult, I don’t understand why anyone would put themselves and more importantly their children at risk of such a horrible disease.

  • This is absolutely why you should vaccinate. I was very disappointed when I stumbled across her original post on Facebook and she was responding to comments from anitvaxxers in an agreeable fashion. Really contradicted her message, I’m glad to hear he’s doing better.
