Article Daniel O’Keeffe’s family prepare to say their final goodbye

The O’Keeffe family have announced that they will be laying their beloved Daniel to rest on Friday.

A friend revealed “Dan was found in a tight space between a wall of the house and solid rock earth – a space that is very difficult to access. This area of the building is extremely cool, and would have been especially cold over the first few (winter) months after Dan disappeared.”

In an announcement on the “Dan Come Home” Facebook page established in an effort to find Daniel, the O’Keeffes thanked followers for their support.

“This community has played such an important role in our lives and we are sincerely grateful,” it reads. “We want to let you know that Dan will be laid to rest this Friday and ask that you keep us in your thoughts.”

“You are wonderful people – we couldn’t have coped without you.”

Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

  • RIP Daniel….im so glad his family can get some closure now and lay him to rest…such sad news though…

  • Did he go there to hide to think about issues and “get stuck”?
    Did he fall and get wedged in there and couldn’t get out? SES and other emergency services have rescued people in such circumstances. Or did he intend to not be found? We may never know unless there was a note with him.

  • this is such a sad story, how heartbreaking for them to find out he had been there the entire time :( My heart aches for them. May he rest in peace.

  • I’m confused :/ I thought he had taken his own life, but it seems it may have been an accidental death!? Such a horrible tragedy for the family. I cannot imagine how they would be feeling, missing for so long and yet being so close to them. I think it would tip me over the edge :,(
