Hello!

In the beginning it was just “me”, I met my husband then it became “we”, after having kids now it is “us”.

Finding the time to spend as just “we” is often hard.

There seems to be so many hurdles; kids, work commitments, social engagements, sickness, tiredness, other family responsibilities, the list goes on.

Remember what things were like before you had kids, what did you like to do as a couple? For most of us that can be a distant memory.

It is important to keep that spark in the relationship. Even if you are too tired, too busy or just can’t be bothered to get out of the house, organise a babysitter and get out there and have FUN!

I know sometimes I am too sleep deprived to know the meaning of the word fun.

Reconnecting as a ‘couple’ on a regular basis can help nurture your relationship from both the emotional and physical levels (and yes physical can mean getting ‘physical’ if you are lucky of course!)

The best part of date night is the opportunity to remind yourself that you are not just “Mummmmmy!!!!”.

There are so many things to do, but to make it a little more fun too, make the choice of the night ‘a lucky dip’!

Here is a little idea, take a box or container, get some small pieces of paper (in my case they are little red hearts) and use these to write fun date day/night activities on them:

  • Romantic dinner
  • A movie – hubby’s choice
  • Walk along the beach
  • Cooking class
  • Sporting event
  • Dessert only date
  • Bush walk
  • Breakfast by the beach

If your date night is once a month, pull out a piece of paper two weeks prior just to give you time to book and organize a babysitter, and then enjoy!

I know it can be easier said than done, but give it a go, your relationship will LOVE you for it.

Do you make time for date night?

  • I love the pull a date out if a bowl idea, how adorable. With our two month old we haven’t had any alone time yet, but I guess it’s too early to strive for that. I imagine the first time we have it we’ll be too sleep deprived and delirious to know what to do.

  • Would love a date night – very hard to find the time with the 4 children and work!

  • I wish!
We have two kids, both of us work and hubby is a shift worker so his schedule is all over the place.
Our date nights or dates always include the kids lol but I guess I like it that way as they are our loves as well even though it’s a different kind of love.
We both know they won’t be this young forever so we like to do as much stuff with them as we can while we have this time. I know it sounds corny but we definitely love our family time all together as we don’t really get it much due to our schedules.

  • Some great advice and interesting reading. I find we don’t go out alone very much at all.

  • It’s a good idea to try and make room in your life for some “couple” time. Don’t just leave it until Valentine’s Day, for an annual “I Love You” show of affection. And there’s lot of little things you can do every day to keep the romance alive. I regularly put little notes in my other half’s lunchbox, send him a text to say “I love you”, and all sorts of silly little things. And he does the same sort of thing. Romance should be every day, not just when you have to make special time for it (although that’s nice too).
