Thanks to Riot Art & Craft we have a fantastic DIY Spooky ghost mobile chandelier  tutorial you can do with your kids just in time for Halloween!

You will need:

For the Ghosts:

  • White Crepe Paper
  • Polyfoam Balls 40mm
  • Scrapbook Paper
  • Gold Glitter Foam Sheet
  • White Satin Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Hole Punch
  • Craft Glue

Mobile (turning the ghosts into a mobile):

  • Dowel Rods
  • Black Satin Ribbon
  • Masking Tape
  • Gold Elastic Thread
  • Brad Pins
  • Brush
  • Black Acrylic Paint

Step 1. Base of ghost

Cut your crepe paper into four large squares.  Wrap around each foam ball and tie at the neck with satin ribbon in a bow.

Step 2. Make Gold Eyes

Cut out two circles from your gold glitter sheet for each ghost, approximately 1cm in diameter.  Hole-punch circles from a black piece of card for each eye, and glue in place.

Step 3.  Pin Ghost Head

Push a brad pin dipped in PVA glue into the top of each ghost’s head. Wrap a piece of gold thread around this to hang, and firmly tie.  Trim any excess thread.

Your ghosts are now ready to hang- there are many ways you can use them to decorate; strung on bunting, hung on a branch, hung individually or assembled as a mobile “chandelier” as pictured, complete with ribbon bats.

Make your Mobile:

Step 4. Make structure of mobile

Cross over two dowel rods, and bind together at the middle with masking tape.  Paint black and leave to dry.

Step 5.  Make (ribbon) bats

Cut four long pieces of gold thread (around 50cm long) and 16 X 8cm pieces of black ribbon.   Tie the ribbon pieces along the length of the thread.  These ribbons will be your bats.  Tie your bat threads half way along each dowel rod.

Step 6. Attach bats

Tie your ghosts to the mobile, on the outer edge of the bats, leaving a couple of centimetres from the edge.  Check that it is balanced as you tie them.

Step 7.Cover visible tape

Finally, wind black ribbon around the middle to cover the masking tape, and attach a length of ribbon to hang.
