“Confront every encounter with a smile on your face and a song in your heart.”

This saying is the mantra of Dr. Carey D.Andrew-Jaja of Magee Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA definitely lives by.

This amazing doctor ensures every baby he delivers begins life with a song in their heart – and it’s a song he personally sings to them!

For years the good doctor has been singing the “Happy Birthday” song to each and every single baby he delivers, immediately following their birth.  This joyful tradition has inspired both parents and the entire nursing staff to sing together in an uplifting serenade to the newest family member.

“I feel an obligation and enjoy another opportunity to celebrate with the family,” said Dr. Andrew-Jaha.  The singing helps mothers and babies form an instantaneous bond and also injects a really dose of fun not always experienced in the typical delivery room.

  • Music has always been a big part of my family’s life, when my daughter (my last baby) was born, we had the radio on in the operating theatre, and as she was delivered “Butterfly Kisses” was playing, so that song became her song. It was played at her first birthday, her 16th, her 18th and will be played at her 21st as well, and probably any other significant event in her life…if I have my way (lol). It is true that music can evoke memories, I always smile whenever I hear it.
