With pregnant women being warned NOT to travel to Zika affected areas it appears the royal couple are ignoring expert advice.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will reportedly still visit Tonga and Fiji during their 16-day royal tour despite fears over the Zika virus, it was confirmed today.

It goes against travel advice that pregnant women should consider not travelling to the countries because of the ‘moderate risk’ of catching the tropical disease.

But Kensington Palace said the couple had sought medical advice and decided to continue with their plans, with no change expected to their itinerary.

Zika can endanger unborn babies, with pregnant women being advised to avoid all travel to areas where cases of the mosquito-borne virus have been reported.

The virus can cause microcephaly for children in the womb, causing babies to be born with abnormally small skulls.

  • Ah well, as long as they got the right advice.

  • Hmmmm, not sure I would be taking risks with my unborn baby, especially at Meghan’s age. But her choice, I guess she’s had the best medical advice

  • She would have some of the best medical care in the world and there is no way they would allow her do do anything to put the baby at risk

  • Thought that the Zika virus was a problem in the very early months of pregnancy. If she is already 4 months pregnant she probably doesn’t have to worry,

  • I’m sure they would have done a lot of research (or their physician would have) and they’ll be extremely careful.

  • I imagine a lot of research was done and much care taken before and during their visit.

  • I am sure they thought long and hard before they made their decision

  • If the sled medical advice first, I don’t see the issue

  • I am sure they know what they need to do

  • I hope it goes well for them, although consulting on whether they should go or not to a Zika affected country is sensible, I’m not sure I would have made the same decision.

  • They sought medical advice because of the zika warning. This means that they took the zika warning serious and didn’t ignore it as the title suggests.

  • I’m pretty sure they would have had expert advice on the topic and would be well informed before they went

  • I hope that all goes well for them. I’d hate to see something go wrong because of a tour.
