Depending on where you are in the country, taking Dad out for a pub lunch for Father’s Day may or may not be possible. But that doesn’t mean you can’t impress him with a delicious meal at home!

Whether it’s for the day itself or to cook dad up a storm some other time, you won’t believe how easy it is to transform everyday meals and ingredients into dude food to write home about.

We spoke to Kami Ramini from Thermomix Australia about how to treat Dad this Father’s Day. Here are her tips.

Lay it on from the get-go

Start as you mean to go on and get the celebration ball rolling from brekkie. Make sure dad doesn’t lift a finger for breakfast other than to eat it! As to menu items – we’ve found that while many would assume men are more about savoury, their sweet tooth comes out a fair amount too.

French toast is a great celebration breakfast which caters to both and transforms an everyday item like toast into something really special. I love it with brioche bread and served with bacon and maple syrup. Ice cream, fresh strawberries and toasted peanuts is another great combination if you want to be really decadent.

To make French toast, simply take 2 thick slices of brioche, whisk up 1 egg with a splash of milk and add a pinch of either cinnamon, salt or both. Then dip your bread into it and fry it in butter until golden and serve with dad’s favourite toppings.

Beer glorious beer

Whether you can get to the pub for a pint or not, there is so much you can create with dad’s favourite brew in the kitchen. Try out our beer and chilli peanut clusters made with just five ingredients for that sweet and spicy crunch or layer up a homemade burger with these barbecue onions, some smokey cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and a gourmet bun and I challenge any pub to do it better.

Did someone say ribs?

Sweet, sticky, spicy, unctuous and totally moreish – ribs are always a winner and a meal Dad will know was made for him. Choose lean ribs and start with a spice rub for the first hour or so of cooking and then add a sticky glaze and return the ribs to the oven or barbecue to get super sticky and delicious. Check out our Cookidoo platform for flavour combinations – some of my favourites are the barbecued pork ribs, the Bourbon pork ribs and the Gu lao rou (sweet and sour pork ribs).

Cook it right

There’s something that just says ‘dad’ about a barbecue and the old favourite of a family roast is always brilliant too. So, how can we transform these Aussie classics into something that feels like a celebration? The MEATER+ is our go-to gadget when it comes to cooking meats and poultry to restaurant-quality perfection on the barbecue, grill or oven. It’s a wireless meat thermometer that takes the guess-work out of cooking times and gives you perfectly succulent results, whether it’s for your roast dinner or that super thick T-bone on the barbie. Spruce it up with all the trimmings like smashed roasted potatoes or cauliflower gratin and dad will be in seventh heaven – as will you!
