EMPOWER.  Self-empowerment.

Some of my favourite words in the English language….

I thought about why empowerment was so important to me and I think throughout the course of my whole life, I was built to learn to empower myself, and therefore, becoming a call for me to pass it onto others. After all, we do teach best what we’ve had to learn for ourselves.

My dad wanted another boy, but we ended up with me (a gorgeous little girl, me being the oldest girl).  In an age where girls are groomed to “find a good husband and make babies”, my dad invested in our potential and we were raised to pursue greatness and to stand on our own two feet.  From an early age, I was taught that I had power within me to be great and do great.

At the age of 15 and with a builder as a father, we were constantly moving houses, schools, friends and I was left to figure out: who the hell am I and what do I do now??  Very big questions for a 15 year old who had just left school and about to enter the work force  but still stuck in those awkward teenage complexes of bad haircuts and peer pressure.

But luckily, I figured it out somehow.  My early life experiences set me up for the perfect opportunity to empower myself and I’ve never looked back since.  Now I share and teach other women to empower themselves and their lives.  These self-empowerment skills aren’t taught to us, and most people don’t naturally gravitate towards them because they involve some work.  Success Education is like taking a shower, one shower and you are not clean for life.  It is no different with self-empowerment, you are constantly growing & evolving,  if you’d like to add a dose of self-empowerment to your daily life, here are 3 quick and simple ones to empower yourself now and that have worked for me…

1. Think

Yeah, pretty simple and straightforward…I know.  But this is one major secret that is imperative to successful living: taking the time to think, be introspective, contemplate, be conscious and aware.  How we think totally determines the direction of our lives.  Many hours of my time is spent on thinking about my life and asking myself the big questions of how I want to live and who I want to become.  Trust me, it’s time very well spent.

2. Build a strong body

Those who know me know I’m a huge fitness fan, and I love nothing more than the feeling of a good 2 hour run!  If you haven’t tapped into the power of your body, this is THE place to start.  You know how they say “you are what you eat”?  Well, I believe “how you move your body is how you live your life”.  When I’m powerful on the inside, I’m powerful on the outside, and vice versa.  Everything is connected, and our body is the proverbial temple of our soul.  So run, do yoga, bike, strength train, hike, whatever, just exercise your power by exercising your body.

3. Journal

Perhaps one of the most instrumental tools of my empowered living: writing.  Writing down my thoughts, feelings, fears, questions, desires, frustrations, hopes, wishes, goals, dreams, and gratitude…my journal is my best friend, my safe haven, my lifesaver.  Who knew the power of a double-spiral bound notebook!  There is something magical and meditative in the process of journaling…the act of connecting within yourself leads you to the very things that inspire you at the deepest level.  In that powerful connection, the power within comes out, and therefore, the EMPOWERMENT.
