Hello!

I hear a lot of Mum’s say they are time poor, tired, exhausted or in some cases a little depressed.

It’s quite incredible when you think about what it takes to raise a soul in the world. For the first few years, you really are their energy source and life coach! Your body and mind becomes shared with this little one until they can do the basics for themselves. Whilst it’s wonderful in many ways, it does take a toll on the body and energy of a new Mum and it is important to understand ways in which you can recharge and nourish yourself.

Time does not equal relaxation…

People often associate feeling better with more time or more space. Whilst this is true somewhat, it is actually more energy that you need. More “juice” to get you flowing and in rhythm with life so that you can accomplish what you want. You can have 10 hours of free time, yet still not recharge your mind and body.

Ever felt those days when you get that spare 20 mins to lie in a park or the beach yet feel frazzled or feel like the mind is a constant ticking bomb that won’t shut off? Many exhausted Mum’s find it tricky to get outside of the day to day schedule to invest in their health and wellbeing.

Being a Mum certainly means the focus is rarely on you and your needs.

I have some clients that have intense days with their children and then have to hear their partner give a blow by blow download about their work dramas when they come home for dinner. I love it… you just get to the end of your day at home nourishing everyone but yourself (the kids, the dog, the washing and the vege garden out back) and then you deal with the grown up work issues bombarding you into the night! Of course, if you are a working Mum, then you have all of the above PLUS your own work politics to manage. A double whammy!!

You don’t need time, you need the currency of energy!

I believe that energy is the new currency (value) that we seek in our modern busy lives. Energy is that invisible life force within us and is the feeling of happiness, vitality and presence within the self or soul. 20 minutes of real peace is better than 2 hours of stressed free time. Think of it this way. We are not plugged into a wall to get electricity to operate. We are not replacing batteries in ourselves every day. Rather, we have amazing and invisible electricity humming in our body that provides a constant force of power if we are able to tap into it and recharge it regularly. Managing this energy is the key to feeling fantastic. That energy is responsible for helping us to feel still and calm or it can act like a spark to help us be adventurous and active.

How do I enhance my natural energy force field?

There are several ways to work with your energy to help you beat exhaustion, tiredness and even depression. These involve simple strategies such as habits you can adopt and also more metaphysical solutions like meditation practice.

Here are a few of my favourite ones (a mix of practical and esoteric) that will get your energy flowing more and they are (I believe) easily accessible for Mum’s.

1. Laughter is a wonderful medicine and natural energy enhancer.

Apparently the act of laughing breaks up inertia from the body and gets energy flowing around the body. Considering you hold your emotions in your stomach and digest them through the stomach channel, any feelings of stress, tiredness, depression and other emotional downers will linger in this region. Having a good old belly laugh will help unblock the feelings and get you in flow. Try watching comedy on You Tube (“just for gags” is a very funny show that plays practical jokes on people), rent your favourite comedian on DVD, attend a comedy show mid-week with girlfriends (a babysitter required here!) or attend a laughter yoga workshop. I did one of these recently and I was in hysterics!

2. Meditation is known to put you into an alpha wave (or similar) state.

As a meditation teacher I cannot express in words how critical it is to get this mindfulness into your life. 20 minutes of deep meditation is like 4 hours of sleep. It helps you shut down the mental overload and reboots your hard drive (brain). We run beginners meditation classes at our Sydney office but you can join any classes or download meditations online and start. Please be patient as it can take time to develop your focus. Once you do though, you will never look back and it will be a skill you will utilise again and again.

3. Journaling or writing can allow you great expression and release.

I suggest you think of journaling for positive experiences. Taking time to write in the evening before you go to bed of the positive life experiences or memories you are making actually creates cellular change in your body. Flooding your mind with good feelings massively energises your cells in your body. If you don’t believe me, try reading Bruce Lipton’s book called “The Biology of Belief”. He is a leading scientist in the US and discusses how cellular consciousness (positive thought) is mod. My favourite gym in Sydney is VIRGIN Active. They have a very cool set-up that makes you feel like you’re in a day spa… It feels decadent and luxurious.

5. Seek out an Energy Healing session when you drop your children off to school or in the evening or a Saturday when you have someone to mind your children.

An energy healing will take all of your emotional, mental and energetic baggage and wash it out of your energy field. It takes between 1- 1.5 hours and is designed to recharge and rejuvenate your Spirit. It can help to de-stress the body, unlock negative events, help you make clearer life choices and grow your inner vitality. Check whether your friends or family know someone in this line of work or contact Rezinate to book in a healing session.

  • I find a walk in the morning gives me a hit of energy to start the day. Swimming laps is even better but harder to manage with kids. The pool is my “happy place” :)
