An Indian family are facing deportation because of a disability suffered by their young daughter.

Mary George was born with a neurological condition and spent the first year of her life in hospital.

Mary’s parents are in Australia on student visas and, after reaching out to Immigration Minister Peter Dutton, were told keeping the family in the country ‘wouldn’t be in the public interest.’

Mary was born in November, 2014 at Adelaide’s Lyell McEwin Hospital where she spent 28 days on life support, shares Daily Mail.

‘We’re in a tricky situation about the future, because we came here for a better life, I’m working,’ Mr George told Nine News.

The family say they are worried about taking Mary home because her condition may worsen and her doctor in Australia is across all of her information.

‘We don’t want to miss Mary’s doctor because he knows everything about her,’ Mrs George said.

They have sought legal help to remain in Australia after being told they could face deportation at the end of the month.

The Department of Immigration are looking at ‘alternative visa options’ for the family.

Do you think they should be allowed to stay in Australia?

  • well i think that they would have to run their checks and all that and determine eligibility if the family really want to remain in aus etc. there is obviously more to their story and it is hard to judge or have an opinion on their situation.

  • So what will happen here? The child is Australian – should the family be deported and she stay here on her own? If the parents are working and not a burden on the country then Australia should do the right thing by this child and look after her. There are many more non-deserving people allowed to live here. I guess also, the tribunal who won’t allow some overseas criminals to be sent back to their country of origin by the Minister, Mr. Dutton, could also overturn this ruling.

  • thats a tricky one, they came here as a study visa, once you make babies, your here to live. i would have before having babies to change the visa to live in australia to avoid all problems in the future?? anyway they had a baby, its an aussie baby, we should help the baby no matter what.

  • The disability of their daughter should never ever be the reason to deport them ! What message do you send to this family, their disabled child and everyone in a similar situation when you allow this to happen ? So wrong !

  • The girl was born here. We will look after her. Retired politicians are a burden on taxpayers but we don’t deport them.

  • The girl was born in Adelaide.
What about people who were previously allowed to migrate to Australia with a disability caused by an accident?? The woman has never worked since she arrived in Aust. She got Aust. citizenship and we as taxpayers have paid for all her medical treatment including many hospital stays and surgery – one was amputation because she didn’t follow treatment advice and disability support pension.

  • I’m sure I read she was born in Australia so why should she be deported. The father is working so it’s not like he’s a burden. Instead of deporting them, deport the ones who don’t work and collect welfare.

  • Very tricky… I think her future prospects, and her parents’ likely contribution, should be actors.

  • Very tricky indeed. But the girl was born in Australia, so in my idea yes, they should be allowed to stay.
