Four people confirmed dead after an accident on the Thunder River Rapids ride at Dreamworld Australia.

Two males and two females aged between 32 and 40, were sadly killed on Monday at Dreamworld.  Police have confirmed there were six people on the ride at the time of the accident. Four adults and two children, both girls aged 10 and 13 according to Police, thankfully both children were lucky to escape.

Police have NOT confirmed any names of the victims, and are asking media to refrain from sharing their details out of respect to family that may not have been informed yet. While family details have been revealed in various other reports we have chosen not to include any names out of respect to loved ones involved.

Police have confirmed four ADULTS were killed when the raft flipped, falling on top of the victims.

It has been reported a mum of two was killed, along with her brother and his partner. The other victim is reportedly a NZ woman who has been living in Australia.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszuczuk has said “Our priority at the moment is for the two young children. They have been taken into care, they are being looked after.”

The Thunder River Rapids Ride is a river rapid water ride located in the Town of Gold Rush section of Dreamworld.

One witness told 9NEWS that she had been on the same ride about 10 minutes before the accident.

“It wasn’t long before that we were on it, and then the park started getting shut down and we saw the helicopters,” she said outside the park.

“We were walking out and heard that the mother, the father and the uncle got seriously injured and possibly died.”

Queensland Police have said in a press conference in the past ten minutes that the incident resulted in the death of four people.

The park is currently closed and staff are working closely with police.

Queensland Ambulance service have said the ride seemed to malfunction and toss the adults out. This resulted in two males and two females sustaining injuries and sadly pass away.

  • This is devastating and upsetting beyond words. Now 4 kids have lost their mums, 1 child watched his mum die and the child of the other mum was tipped out but survived. I can’t imagine the grief to these family’s and horrific memories they will never be able to forget. So sad all around. And I read one of the husbands was in the other raft too. Horrendous. Dreamworld is meant to be a place of fun and any family who has been there would have certainly gone on this ride. I did as a child! It’s the only ‘safe’ family ride there. Not anymore.
Thoughts with every family who lost a loved ones, those 2 poor kids who watched their mums die and the other 2 siblings who have lost their mums. And my thoughts are with other visitors who witnessed this tragedy as well as ambulance and police. Even their jobs involving trauma almost every day – something like this is horrific beyond words.

  • Really sad. I hope that, between the people killed, there weren’t the parents of these kids.

  • So tragic-my thoughts are with all of the families of those who passed away. That ride has been around forever but frankly, everything is open to malfunction and we no longer go on any rides at all. So sad to the family that were just out having fun and now have lost their lives

  • A tragedy that should never have happened. If I heard correctly on the news it should have been shut down earlier.
