A British family is offering a numeracy and literacy tutor $180 an hour to help their troublesome children…

A family in the UK has posted an advert to Tutor House requesting a numeracy and literacy tutor for their two children. The job requires the successful applicant to work 12 hours a week, but there is one small catch – the children have scared off seven nannies in just two years and are described by their parents as ‘troublesome.’ Are you up to the job?

Not An Easy Task

The parents were extremely honest about their children’s behaviour in the ad, warning potential tutors of what they will be faced with. “Previously tutors have been subject to physical fighting, swearing and shouting, and they’ve been known to play pranks like throwing flour and eggs,” they wrote. “To put it in perspective, we’ve had one tutor last only two weeks because he was locked in the garage for two hours and had another call our children ‘the devil reincarnated'” Despite this, the parents believe that the situation is not entirely their children’s fault, and that they simply haven’t found the right person for the job. We wonder why…

Two Different People

Reflecting on their children’s behaviour, the parents say they are two different people when they are at home with them. “I believe previous tutors have failed because they haven’t taken charge of the situation,” said their father. “They’re pretty well behaved with us!”

These parents sound like they might not be willing to face the reality of their children’s behaviour! Even though the hourly rate is undeniably attractive, we doubt there will be many sensible tutors that will be signing up to take on this challenge.

  • I believe tutoring is very useful for some students, even necessary sometimes. I’m more inclined to be trying to work out why the kids seem to be having behavioural issues in the first place. If you fix that, maybe they won’t need a tutor

  • Wow, that’s great pay – maybe it includes danger money lol.

  • It can be extremely hard parenting and parents will do a lot for their children to make sure their future is secure. Unfortunately some parents go too far like the cases recently with those Hollywood Star parents.

  • If I was there I’d think about it. That’s an attractive pay rate.

  • There may be medical issues with these children. I might not be popular in saying this. They could have a from of Autism. There is different levels of it, some a lot worse than others. They could have a Neurological disorder. There are some that genuinely cause behavioural issues. Some are genetic and can skip generations. Some are also a Chromosome issue.
Apart from spending more quality time with their children I think the parents need to have their children assessed. Some excel in some subjects and get bored as they aren’t given hard enough work (I know of a case where a pupil was assessed and actually skipped at year at school – she as Aspergers Spectrum Disorder as she is ahead in all subjects). Some have a brain that only understands some subjects.

  • Wow its kind of shocking

  • There seems to be a disconnect with what the parents are saying how they are with them vs the nannies/tutors. Although for all I know it could be true. Someone will take the job – they may as well give it a go as they can quit the following week anyway. But i think it’s fine for them to hire a tutor

  • No doubt someone will take on this role.
Behaviour needs to be addressed before tutor work can occur.

  • very interesting, i wonder where they get their behaviour from

    Reply

  • it certainly would be interesting!! I’d take it on for the challenge

    Reply

  • Wow I’d take the job on for that money. At least try, not like I’d be forced to do it unless I signed a contract.

  • I think they need some sort of help to get the kids under control!

  • I has it as a child and it helped me mainly as the tutor discovered my learning disability was actually terribly short sighted
