Any remedies?! Help!!!!

Luckily, her followers came to her rescue and provided the 38-year-old mum plenty of advice.

“Get your feet above your heart. Stay hydrated and call your doctor,” one person wrote before warning her that swollen feet can also be a sign of pre-eclampsia – a potentially fatal pregnancy condition linked to high blood pressure and may also mean an early delivery.

“If you can make play-doh like holes in your ankles that’s not a good thing. Concern from TX and a formerly preeclamptic Momma!” wrote one fan.

“When my ankles looked like this I had preeclampsia – I was induced immediately prayers for relief and that all is well,” another added.

Sick Day A post shared by Jessica Simpson (@jessicasimpson) on

Pre-eclampsia is a disorder of pregnancy characterised by high maternal blood pressure, and protein in the urine. It is the most common serious medical complication of pregnancy, affecting around five to eight per cent of all pregnancies in Australia. One to two per cent of cases are severe enough to threaten the lives of both the mother and her unborn child.

The causes of this condition are not fully understood, but genetic factors and the placenta seem to play significant roles. Pre-eclampsia tends to be more common in first, rather than subsequent, pregnancies.

What are the symptoms of pre-eclampsia?
Pre-eclampsia initially has no obvious symptoms and most women with the condition feel well. That’s why regular antenatal checks of your blood pressure are so important.

Early symptoms of pre-eclampsia include:
a sudden rise in blood pressure (above levels at the start of pregnancy)
proteinuria (protein in your urine).
Over time, you may also develop fluid retention (oedema). Oedema is a common pregnancy symptom, usually causing swelling of the feet and ankles. However, sudden swelling of the face, hands and feet can be a sign of pre-eclampsia.

Some of the advanced symptoms of pre-eclampsia include:
dizziness
headache
visual disturbances, such as flashing lights
abdominal pain just below the ribs
nausea and vomiting.
If left untreated, pre-eclampsia can lead to serious problems such as:
fitting or convulsions
kidney failure
liver failure
blood clotting problems
death.

Jessica and her husband Eric Johnson have already confirmed that the new addition to the family will be a little baby girl.

She will grow up alongside their other children, six-year-old daughter Maxwell Drew and five-year-old son Ace Knute.

  • One of my friends had really large ankles during pregnancy. She ended up having pre-eclampsia. Had to have her baby early. She could only wear mens slip on sandals as nothing else would fit.

  • I think she would have a personal Dr who would be monitoring her closely and admit her to hospital if need be!

  • I’m sure she’s got better medical care around her than most expectant mothers. If she had it she would have been diagnosed already surely. This is why you should never post for any advice even remotely medically relevant on the internet.

  • Go to the doctor Jessica not social media!

  • Absolutely I was thinking pre-eclampsia and an urgent doctor’s visit.

  • I think going straight to the doctor is the right thing to do.

  • What do you know… celebrities are normal people after all !

  • Its nice to see that celebrities are normal too…and are just as clueless as others.

  • Getting it checked by the doctor is the way to go, not asking on social media.

  • It may just be that she was on her feet too long or had her feet down too long, rest and put your feet up and let the doctors do the diagnosing, oh yeah I have had pre eclamsia twice now

  • I got swollen ankles and had nothing go wrong but it is certainly best to get checked.

  • Swollen ankles at the end of the pregnancy is very common and most of the time it isn’t pre-eclampsia. Certainly important to get those feet up and have it checked by any concerns.

  • Terrifying how many things can happen to us during pregnancy that can be out of our control

  • I know a Mum whose baby died a few days after birth as the toxins had passed through to the baby.
The Dr. was definitely aware of the symptoms but didn’t admit her to hospital. Even her face was so swollen her parents didn’t recognise her.
