The team at Fitbit love thinking of new ways to inspire the world to become healthier and more active.

With Father’s Day coming up, we are talking about #fitspiration for the man in your life.

The MoM team have already introduced you to the cool range of Fitbit products to help motivate you to get up and get active and it’s achieved some great results for some of you.

Now it’s time to get your dads, hubbies (and even sons) off the couch and doing some exercise.

There is a number of health organisations who recommend doing at least 10,000 steps a day to help decrease your chances of getting Type 2 Diabetes, heart disease and a range of other preventable diseases.

No matter what kind of dad is in your life, a Fitbit wireless activity tracker is a great gift that will help motivate him to set some goals and get fitter.

And we’ve come up some motivation tips to get him up and on his way to 10,000 steps a day.

1. Sitting is the new smoking

Statistics indicate that by sitting all day you’re increasing your risk of a whole range of preventable diseases. And this can be reduced just by standing up to work. Stand up desks are the coolest thing around right now and they are readily available in different forms online. We love the ones that also include a treadmill!

2. Get to know his co-workers

At work, get up from his desk and walk around the building a few times a day. He’ll get some social interaction in and It’s amazing how quickly those steps add up over the course of a day.

3. Take the train/bus to work

This one’s a no brainer for getting extra steps. Even if public transport is not “his thing”, it has the advantage of being one of the easiest ways of getting incidental exercise into an average day.

4.  Take up golf

Yes, we endorse it, as a fitness activity not a second marriage!  A walk (no carts) around 18 holes can clock up an extra 7000 – 8000 steps in one round!

5. Use the kids as an excuse

Instead of dropping them at the school gate, find a park a few blocks away and walk them the rest of the way. Or take them out for a walk with the dog and go the extra mile. The dog will love you for it.

Fitbit has a range of cool products that are easy to use and sync wirelessly with nearly 100 devices. The product range is available now from fitbit.com

  • Some good points. Hopefully the bosses might not mind the newer more active members of staff….. maybe if they don’t actually wander away from their desks, maybe just jog on the spot in front of their desk lol.

  • We had a good laugh at work the other day, as a colleagues partner had been given one at work by his company. He woke up quite concerned and alarmed that he had only reached deep sleep for a period of time smaller than he thought he should have. His partner (my colleague), then explained to him that we go through various cycles of sleep throughout the night and deep sleep is just one cycle lol.

  • Many places of work don’t like employees just getting up and wandering around, still – I do agree with the point you are making.
