A man has been charged over a five-hour police chase with a toddler on board.
The chase began about 11am on Golf Links Drive in Watanobbi, after reports of sightings of a man wanted on several outstanding warrants, 9 NEWS reports.
The 40-year-old suspect allegedly fled police in a truck.
Officers realised there was a child in the flat-bed truck, and pulled back on the chase as the PolAir helicopter tracked the vehicle.
The truck is believed to have run out of petrol and came to a halt on Colechin St in Yagoona, where the suspect was surrounded and arrested by police.
The two-year-old boy was not injured during the chase and was taken to Bankstown Hospital as a precaution.
The man was wanted on three serious warrants, including breaching of Supreme Court bail for firearms and weapons offences, and possession of weapons in a public place.
He has been charged with two outstanding warrants for assault and firearm offences, three counts of using an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, police pursuit (not stop/drive recklessly), using an unregistered vehicle, driving a vehicle with a suspended licence, two counts of not giving particulars to other driver, two counts of destroying or damaging property, and driving with a child not restrained.
He is assisting police with inquiries and has been refused bail to appear to Bankstown Local Court today.
