Hello!

I have a 22 month old son. He is generally a healthy kid but he coughs a lot. It is mostly dry cough. I have tried humidifier, vaporizer, prospan coughing syrup. None have worked yet and is very annoying for him and does not let him sleep well. It used to be only at night but now with the lightest cold and running nose, coughing starts and looks like there is no end for it. Thanks for your help in advance.

  • A trip to the Dr would be advised, it could be a sign of asthma. I used Vicks on the kids feet before bedtime helped a little. And a teaspoon of honey seemed to soothe things too

  • Stand in bathroom with door window shut and put hot shower on and steam room, big breaths in. To loosen chest.

  • Sounds like asthma to me. My daughter had similar cough at same age. Doctor’s don’t always check for it if you don’t mention it.

  • Has he been checked for mild asthma? If the cold affects him, this could be the case.

  • I hope you find the answers soon, it will be making him tired also

  • If tour hubby works in construction the dust particles could be in he air.

  • This is probably a really dumb thing to ask but I’ll ask it anyway… Do you or your partner smoke? If you do, even second hand smoke chemicals lingering on your clothes can affect your children’s lung function and make them prone to coughs. Apologies if this is obvious to you, but I there are people out there who don’t realise that smoking outside can still impact their children’s health.

  • it has been a fairly windy winter with a lot of dust and irritants in the air – Could this be causing part of the problem? Maybe wait and see how he is once the warmer months come along…
My daughter was coming down with a little cold a few days ago but I appear to have nipped it in the bud by setting up the panel heater at the door of her room… Am thinking that perhaps there may have been a bit of damp that the heater dried up :)

  • Hope your child’s cough has improved

  • A visit to the doctor would help

  • Hope your little boys cough has cleared up now and all is well

  • Think u should try a natrepath! They will hv a remedy

  • my little one, goes into coughing fits. Uncontrollable. Nothing works, particularly if its as a result of post nasal drip.

  • Weve had the cold and the cough hasn’t left the kids. I have a vapouriser on during the night with no heaters on.

  • I’d take him to the doctor to get him checked just in case. My kids recently had colds and their coughs hung around for a whole month afterwards.

  • Many cases of child asthma start out as a cough, so I would definitely see the doctor to see if you can eliminate or confirm this. If it is worst at night, I would also suggest changing the bedding at the minimum once a week, more often if you have enough bedding for it. You should also see if your doctor can confirm or rule out allergies

  • Definitely take him to the Dr. My sister’s asthma started with a persistent dry cough.

  • Have you taken him to see a GP? I just wondered about asthma, as my nephew has a dry cough as his only asthma symptom.

  • Try demazin for baby’s work well for my son’s congestive cough also, good luck hope ur baby boy gets relief & Sleep. There’s nothing worse than feeling there sickness.

  • Children Vicks Vapour Plugin for baby’s/Children is What I Would Recommend 100% It’s For baby’s & Kids With Congestion, Chesty Coughs etc. Try it
