Hello!

Great news for those parents that have been unsure about keeping your kids in daycare. Prime Minister has just announced that free childcare will come into place from next week.

Mr Morrison has said that as long as childcare centres remain open, they will receive 50 per cent of their fee revenue. Parents will not be charged any fees at all.

“Relief is on its way for around a million Australian families and thousands of early learning educators and carers,” Mr Morrison said.

“Child care and early childhood education is critical, particularly for those Australians who rely on it so they can go to work every day,” Mr Morrison said.

“Critical areas are not just the obvious ones — it is not just the doctors or the nurses who are at the hospitals, it is the cleaners at the hospitals as well.

“It is the people driving trucks to get food out to supermarkets and ensure the supplies continue.

“If you have a job in this economy then that is an essential job, in my view, in terms of the running of the economy and it is important that all of those parents who have children, that they get access to child care and those facilities will be there for them in the many months ahead.”

Keep Childcare Centres Open

Childcare centres will only be earning half of what they usually make but this is better than the alternative of losing thousands of kids as parents rush to remove their kids from care.

Federal Education Minister Dan Tehan said that this new childcare system will start from this Sunday night.

“It will be a system which will mean parents will get their children cared for free,” emphasised Mr Tehan.

Any Job

Mr Tehans says the childcare policy will be in place for at least six months, with a one-month review.

This relief is available for all parents, whatever their job is.

Mr Tehan did say that children of essential workers, such as nurses and doctors, will be prioritised, should spaces fill up.

This payment will be paid instead of Child Care (CCS) and Additional Child Care Subsidy payments.

The scheme will cost the nation around $1.6 billion and will benefit around 1 million families.

  • Now the kids are back at school, and this applies to OSHC, it’s a really helpful transition for us.

  • I’m stuck in an inbetween limbo. I’m not working as I’m on maternity leave. My oldest used to go 2 days a week and continued to go so I could have 2 days to focus on my new baby and rest and also do some work from home in my husbands business. So technically I’m not employed to continue to send him to daycare but I am working a little and I would be working if maternity leave was finished.

  • Great initiative! My sister in law is a nurse and my brother is a truck driver so they’re both still working during this time. So good to know that the government will help them out with their sons fees.

  • I think it’s safer to keep kids at home at the moment but it’s a great initiative

  • I think this is amazing! It’s something I definitely need at this time as I still have to go to work. I do however feel for the childcare educators whose pay will be cut due to this though!

  • I think it is great however I am currently not sending my son as I have not been told how they intend to maintain social distancing with 3 year olds. He already catched enough illness from daycare I’m not risking this one.

  • Will it be means tested as the current system is? I know parents in NSW who have 2 children at school and one in childcare. Both work in the medical profession can’t take extra time off. Relatives of theirs are also in the medical profession and working at the same times so they can’t help each other

  • Great for those parents who genuinely need it, otherwise it’s better to keep children at home.

  • A great initiative, but strict social distancing rules need to apply!

  • it’s great to see the govt stepping up, this is all new for everyone and is such a stressful time but we must try to keep our kids lives as normalised as we can given the circumstance, they still need to interact with other kids, and play and create and be kids

  • I think it’s great for those that still have to work and don’t have any other option

    • It does indeed alleviate an extra level of pressure for many people.

  • Its a good thing for our workers but I can’t help being worried as to how social distancing would work.

  • Good idea, but I still won’t be sending my son, he will be staying home where he is safe
