Who says having fun requires money? Here are some kids activities in Sydney that are completely free!

We all know about the beaches but what about the other attractions that Sydney has but we never knew they were free? Museums are a great way for kids to be exposed to art and the inventions and history of the world. Kids activities in Sydney are endless and they change with every season.

Museums

We have so many museums in Sydney that offer great entertainment and education for our little ones. The Museum of Contemporary Art is a good example as well as The Rocks Discovery Museum. They are both free just like the Australian History Museum where the kids will be able to learn more about the history of Australia. The Rocks Discovery Museum also has special events every few days. All these museums open at different times so it is best to check them out online first before planning a family trip.

Royal Botanic Garden

One of the most beautiful gardens in Sydney and the best part? It is in the centre of Sydney. With the Opera House and the Darling Harbour as views, the Royal Botanic Garden is the perfect spot for a family walk, a picnic and lots of photos with you and the kids. They also offer free guided walks every morning! If your children love flowers and open spaces then this is one of the most suitable kids activities in Sydney for your little ones.

Sydney Harbour Bridge

While we are on the topic of amazing views, have you tried walking over the Sydney Harbour Bridge? The whole family will be able to see the Circular Quay and the Opera House from one of the most convenient spots. There are safety wires in place but there is also the chance to take photographs of the spectacular views Sydney has to offer. The best day will be when it’s not too hot but still sunny outside so the sea can reflect the light of the sun.

Sydney Park

Sydney Park in Alexandria is another great choice when it comes to walks. The kids will be able to run freely and play on the grass or at the big playground that there is in the middle of the park. If you have a kid aged 3-8 who wants to learn how to ride a bike then you are in the right place. The Sydney Park’s cycling centre has a course that aims to assist the little ones in learning how to ride their bicycles during the school holidays.

Sydney Observatory

Are you kids into stars and the universe? One of the best kids activities in Sydney is to visit the Sydney Observatory where your children will be able to see the items and buildings that were used during researches decades ago. They will also have the chance to learn more about the galaxy and planets and see the oldest Australian telescope. One of the best kids activities in Sydney for kids who love to explore.

Playgrounds

There are many entertaining playgrounds in Sydney that will give your children all the excitement they need. A popular one is in Wulaba Park situated in Waterloo. It’s famous for its giant slide and the height of the playground as a whole. Just as entertaining is the Oatley Park Adventure Playground which is like a tower. It is really popular in the area as it attracts kids of all ages. Another one that is an excellent choice is the water park, Putney Park. There are many amazing parks around Sydney where your kids will never get tired of playing and you can enjoy an outing as a family.

  • I love the royal botanic gardens!
They always have little events and things that you can join into for free. I especially love when it’s vivid and the kids can see all of the light displays.

  • It’s hard to know what happens in Sydney as I live way on the other side on the country! Bunnings and shopping centres usually have free activities during the holidays, which are good for a little while. My kids really love the library

  • In the long school holidays in December and January it can get very expensive trying to keep the kids entertained so these free lists are a great idea and some of things are different from the usual ideas.
