  • Also another spelling thing I still remember was when you need to make some words plural, it was drop the y and add ‘ies’

  • Brilliant! I remember when I got to high school lots of other kids knew all these and I’d never been taught. My teens are now making up raps for the periodic table for science – great way to remember. I remember the planets from a Hi-5 song :)

  • I love clever tricks like this. I wish there was a book that had all these things in it. I would be engrossed and my poor children would be taught all of them.

  • I find my girls remember song lyrics really well and tunes. I should probably try changing the words so that they are singing something educational instead of the latest chart topping pop songs. Loved reading what other mums have suggested. Going to try a few out this weekend with my girls . thanks

  • Most of these are not ones that I learnt. I could use some of them myself now that the kids are starting school, like the planets one!

  • We were always taught ‘I before e except after c when the sound is ee’. You’ll find this does work. Think of science.
