Local Council bans remote-controlled toys in parks and reserves.

The City of Mandurah has been labelled “the fun police” after restricting remote-controlled toys in parks and reserves.

Anyone caught using the remote-controlled devices, including cars, planes and boats, on council-owned land could end up in court and face fines of up to $5000, reports Perth Now.

The City of Mandurah in WA says the new regulations were introduced to protect its public parks and reserves from damage.

The council says it will also protect people visiting the public areas.

Residents who want to use remote-controlled toys can apply to the council for a permit.

The City of Mandurah says it won’t be actively policing its public parks and reserves for remote-controlled toys.

It will only enforce the new laws when a complaint is made.

Recently we shared the story of an Adelaide  Mum shocked to discover a sign banning kids from rolling down a hill at Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens. Read that HERE.

Do you think local councils are getting a bit extreme with the bans being put in place lately?

  • Yes, this is too extreme for me !

  • I get why they have done it, but have they designated a safe space for them to be used??

  • They are getting too extreme,l can’t see the problem.

  • Actually, I agree with this one. Some of those things are big and heavy, and dangerous if not properly controlled.

  • More Council poppy-cock! If it is classed as being dangerous, how does buying a special permit make it safe?!!

  • Do you have to pay for the permit then? Very weird indeed. I wonder if there have been a lot of accidents and that’s why they arrived to such a decision. Not really a popular decision I’d say.

  • There should be a distinct area set aside for these remote controlled devices and permits should not be required if you are in this area.

  • So first your taxes are used to maintain the park , then they want you to pay to use it. Money grubbers is what they are.

  • So if they are so dangerous and cause so much damage why can you get a permit to use them? Bet you have to pay to get the permit.

  • I think this might be a money grabbing scheme. They’ve banned them for safety reasons, but you can buy a permit to do it :/ Either they’re dangerous or not, why make people pay for the privelege?!
