Indoors, outdoors, no cost, low cost, informative or pure and simple fun – here are boredom-busting school holiday ideas for each state:

Victoria

  1. Head out to Victoria’s biggest and most exciting theme park, Adventure Park. Located just 10 minutes from Geelong, Adventure Park is loads of fun for the whole family. With fast-paced and exciting rides like the roaring rapids and aqua speed racers alongside relaxing boat cruises and a Tiny Tot Splashzone for the little ones, too.
  2. Free Mad Hatter’s Tea Party @ Queen Victoria Market. This free event is for children all ages and will take place at the L Shed on Tuesday the 3rd and Thursday the 5th April 2012. There will be three sessions on both of these days; 10.10am, 11.10am and 12.10pm. Each session will run for 35 minutes.
  3. Bendigo Easter Festival 2012. Held over Easter weekend, the festival will feature a wide range of exciting and unique family entertainment. Good Friday festivities will include the Very Perry Show, a Katy Perry Tribute Show and children’s entertainment duo Shimmy Shakers and The Gondos. Easter Saturday events will be combined with the 2012 Chinese Spring Festival and the unique annual Awakening of the Dragon event. The festival will be capped off on Easter Sunday with the annual Gala Parade.
  4. Horse Trail Rides Mornington Peninsula: Outside the outer limits of Melbourne’s CBD, the Morning Peninsula is well worth the trek. The scenery is breathtaking! The horse riding adventure will take you on a trail within the greenery of the bush or along the shoreline of the beach.
  5. Otway Fly Zip Line and Treetop Walk: A beautiful blend of nature and fun, the Otway Fly attractions not offers the chance to glide between trees, for those of you who have a fear of flying there is the popular treetop walk to try. As your kids explore the 8 separate cloud stations, enthusiastic Fly Guides will give them expert commentary. This day will be educational as well as fun for adults and kids!

Queensland

  1. The Ipswich Art Gallery has a FREE kids show running the entirety of the school holidays called Dreamer in Space- which is a black light puppet show
  2. Eggventures in the Queen Street Mall , Brisbane– sponsored by Woolworths, Queen Street mall has been turned into an adventure wonderland from the 31st March to the 9th April. There are also reptile shows and performances from the cast of Annie.
  3. Eggventures will also be presenting a series of FREE live stage shows.  A great school holiday activity for all families, come down to see your favorite Nickelodeon stars take center stage: Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob Squarepants.
    – Dora The Explorer’s Ballet Adventure: Free live stage shows at 11am and 1pm daily on the Main Stage in Queen Street Mall, from Thursday, April 4 until Monday, April 8.
    – SpongeBob Squarepants and Stories from Bikini Bottom: Free live stage shows at 11am and 1pm daily on the Main Stage in Queen Street Mall, from Friday, April 12 until Sunday, April 14.
  4. Australia Zoo- Head to the home of the Crocodile Hunter, where you’ll experience wildlife like nowhere else in the world. With over 1,200 animals and free interactive wildlife shows daily – it’s as wild as it gets!
  5. Go Ride a Wave- Join the team  at Go Ride a Wave at their many locations in QLD or VIC. With an array of activities to choose from, Surfing, Stand up paddle or Kayaking, and with over 25 years of experience you will be in safe hands with Go Ride a Wave

South Australia

  1. Go along to the Art Gallery of South Australia and pick up a FREE Easter topic tail. Families will also be rewarded to a FREE Easter treat during their visit over the long weekend. Please meet at the North Terrace main entrance and Santos Atrium information desk.
  2. Head down to Botanic Gardens of Adelaide, and join in one of their many school holiday programs. Fake Fossils School holiday program- you might not know it but the botanic garden is full of dinosaurs. Minibeast Gardening School Holiday Program – Discover which minibeasts are good in your garden and why.
  3. Up ad beyond…learn all about Solar System, stars and constellations at the Adelaide Planetarium. The planetarium offers lots of school holiday activities that are both fun and educational. The Night’s Sky mini presentation with a full dome movie experience; a choice of Tycho to the Moon or Wildest Weather in the Solar System
  4. Dunstant Adventure Playground- a playground for kids of all ages that is filled with thrills and excitement. Come for a quick stopover or come for the day. The playground has sunshade, tables, parking, seats; it is near a bike path and filled with awesome equipment.
  5. Enjoy the magic at the Hahndorf Fairy Gardens. From magic fairy toadstools, and a fairy wish-you-well (where you can even send a letter or email to the fairies), get your hands dirty and enjoy the magic http://thefairygarden.com.au

Western Australia

  1. Freemantle Street Arts Festival- This Easter Long weekend will see Fremantle showcase of the world of busking, street theatre, comedy, circus and a lot more.
  2. Rockingham Easter Carnival 2013- Held over a three day period this totally FREE event will feature lots of non-stop live entertainment, market stalls, arts and crafts, animals, kids activities, carnival rides and games, displays and much, much more.
  3. Spend the day at Yanchep National Park where you can walk the stroller-friendly Koala Boardwalk, take a tour of Crystal Cave or even hire a rowboat to paddle around in.
  4. Fremantle will be hosting Dinosaurs Alive at The Esplanade Reserve. See Tyrannosaurus Rex, Velocitator, Stegosaurus and more!

Northern Territory

  1. For an exciting array of FREE Easter Festivities for the whole family, head down to the Darwin Waterfront. With loads of family fun to choose from you can jump around on the jumping castles, hit the waterslides or join the water games by the Recreation Lagoon. With the Easter Bunny’s Burrow set to be bigger than ever, make sure you enter the burrow to capture a memorable photo with the Easter Bunny and receive a chocolate egg.
  2. Come along to the feeding frenzy, at one of Darwin’s unique and increasingly popular attraction- Aquascene. It gives you an introduction to several of the marine species living off the Darwin coast.
  3. The Alice Springs Reptile Centre is one of the largest reptile displays in the Northern Territory. Come and visit the extensive range of reptiles and make sure you do not miss the saltwater crocodile exhibit featuring underwater viewing,
  4. Entertaining kids of any age is easy – just head to your local park! Berry Springs Nature Park has loads to offer the whole family including: picnic facilities, waterfalls, nature trails or swim with goggles to see many small native fish and other aquatic life that live in the clear pools. Just under 50km from Darwin, get the family outdoors for FREE fun & activities.
  5. Head to Basecamp Wallaroo for an unforgettable family getaway. Activities include: Rock-climbing, Abseiling, Push bikes, Flying fox, Canoeing, Fishing, Wildlife Viewing, Campfire storytelling and more! In close proximity to the world heritage listed Kakadu National Park, Basecamp is a great place to take the family on a weekend getaway.

New South Wales

  1. Go on a bush walk in Ku-ring-gai National Park. The Aboriginal Heritage Track includes one of the most popular rock art sites in the area.
  2. Check out the award-winning Sculptures in the Scrub walking track in Timallallie National Park. It’s a fun way to introduce kids to local Aboriginal history and culture.
  3. Get out of the city and have a change of scenery. Spend a day in the Blue Mountains. Climb the thousands steps at the Giant Stairway, catch the Scenic Railway or brave the heights while riding Scenic Skyway over Jamison Valley
  4. Feed the Pelicans at The Entrance. It operates at 3.30pm daily, 365 days a year come rain, hail or shine. Whilst you wait for the Pelicans to come, have a play in Vera’s Water Garden (bring your swimmers or a change of clothes, as you will get wet)
  5. Catch a ferry to Manly, and sail past North and South heads. Actually catch any ferry across the magnificent Sydney Harbour.

    • oh yeah i recommend that if you have littlies and are going to go see autralia zoo, try to go to the aussieworld theme park as well. it is a better theme park for the little children as opposed to dreamworld etc
