As kids potter away on their iPads, they might not realise just how far technology has come in the last few decades.

Enter Ellen…

The talk show host took the chance to introduce kids to outdated technology including typewriters and voice recorders, and their reactions are absolutely hilarious.

Check out what they had to say in the video below …

  • Hahaha this is SO funny! I used most of these things growing up, can’t believe they’re now on the obsolete list, I didn’t think I was THAT old :(

  • Oh! Those kids are adorable. Ellen is such a wonderful person!! A very funny video to watch!
I learned to type on one of those typewriters. Technology has made life so much easier. It’s amazing. In our Community Museum there are different typewriters that kids can try out. A very enriching experience.

    • I learnt to type on one like that too. The ribbon would go right to the end. You either had to rewind it or replace it. The next stage was electric typewriters. I gave my old portable typewriter to a friend’s child to learn on. Her Mum wanted her to practise on it before she let her practise on her elctronic one. The girl deliberately jammed all the keys together. She missed out because her Mum wouldn’t relen t and let her use hers

      • :-) It was nice to type on those machine, but when you made mistakes… it wasn’t that nice at all. With the electric one, there was a screen where you could see what you were typing before actually putting it on paper. A first improvement for sure. Even if sometimes you didn’t see the errors anyway. Now with computers, spelling errors programs and printers.. it’s completely a different life.
But I’d wish that more people would learn to type with 10 fingers. It’s something that once you learn, you never forget.
