British teachers have shared their outrage after a greeting card company released a selection of cards that they feel insult their profession.

With the British schooling year coming to an end, one greeting card company has released a series of greeting cards for teachers that aren’t quite what you’d expect.

Love Layla is selling cards for parents to give teachers that are less than complimentary, insulting teaching ability, the profession, and even their own children!

Unfair And Ungrateful

The selection of cards feature messages including ‘nursery teacher: the only job where you find yourself saying don’t lick that’, ‘thank f*** my kid doesn’t have you as their teacher next year’, and ‘thanks for putting up with bratty ungrateful children like my classmates’.

While the company says that the cards were just meant to be a bit of fun, company director Stacey Dennis says that they have received many messages from teachers who feel personally attacked by the range.

“We’ve had lots of messages from teachers on social media who think that our products are insulting and rude towards them,” she said. “We believe they are great fun – as do the parents who have nearly cleared us out of our stock.”

Laugh It Off

Love Layla is known for selling controversial cards, and Stacey says that they have no plans to stop anytime soon.

“We’re used to upsetting some people with some of our range, which despite being sometimes risque, is designed to be a laugh and thoroughly good-natured,” she said.

“I would say that all those outstanding, enthusiastic teachers out there have nothing to worry about but those who may be less than the top of the class should prepare themselves. I’m sure six weeks holiday will help them get over it if they’ve been offended in any way”

As tempting as it might be for some parents to give a card like this, we think we’ll stick to a good old-fashioned thank you card and remind ourselves of the incredible job most teachers do.

Do you think these cards are completely inappropriate or just a bit of fun? Let us know in the comments.

  • I think they are a bit of fun and are funny. But I think they’re not suitable for school age children to be handing out

  • Where is there sense of humour?! I can see the funny side, I think society in general is losing its sense of humour, people are way too sensitive and PC and easily offended.

  • Oh gee that’s a bit much

  • I’m a big fan of funny cards, but there is a time a place for humor like this. I’d only share a card like this between close family and friends who would see it as a joke and would never use a card to insult people. In fact, why would you bother wasting money on a card just to be rude. I feel if you were that disappointed in a teacher you would have done something about it (swap the kids class or spoken to the teacher at least) to deal with the issue in a more adult way prior to sending this card.

  • Cards like this are great for friends and family who get your humour I think. Not anyone else

  • As my mother taught me “if you can not say anything good about a person, then don’t say anything at all”. Yes you would have to only give these to someone who would understand.

  • Lots of “furious slamming” of things going on on social media, apparently. Pfff. Yep, some people are going to be offended by these. Probably better to only give them to someone who you know has the right sort of sense of humour for it.

  • There’s no way I could give my child’s teacher this card for so many reasons, its completely inappropriate, rude and sets a bad example for the child

  • Not nice , I wouldn’t buy those cards.

  • I think they are very disrespectful, imagine if you were the teacher to receive one. How would you feel?

They should have some that say thank f$$$ I didn’t have you as a student next year

  • The age old saying “if you don’t have anything nice to say then say nothing at all”

    Reply

  • They sound funny… unless you’re receiving one!!

    Reply

  • Wow, only way I could see someone getting away with giving one would be if they were mature and jokes were their thing, between the teacher and student. Otherwise they’re just rude and uncalled for.

  • That’s very disrespectful. Even if the teacher was not good, still not nice.

  • Don’t think this company would make many sales anyway…families who give cards to their teachers are always grateful for the work their teacher has put into their child’s education. Parents who aren’t appreciative don’t say thankyou let alone spend their money on a card….just my personal experience. I think these cards are quite disgusting. Children are a reflection of their parents…
