“Tragically, a 24-year-old woman died in a two-car crash at the intersection of Davey St and Argyle St, Hobart at 1am today.
The woman was pregnant and her unborn child was later delivered at the Royal Hobart Hospital.
A two-year-old child in the vehicle received non- life threatening injuries.

The woman was driving a Nissan Tida and the other car involved was a stolen Toyota Rav 4, being driven at speed by a youth.
The 15 year old alleged driver of the stolen car left the scene of the crash on foot and was taken into custody later this morning. His three passengers, also youths, received treatment in hospital.

This was an avoidable crash and an absolute tragedy. Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and loved ones at this sad time.

  • Todays youth are an embarrassing lot, its disgusting that this toddler and newborn baby no longer have their mother due to a bunch of morons who thought it would be cool to steal a vehicle and speed through a town with it. Bring back the old fashioned ways of raising children.
Thoughts go out to the family at this sad time xo

  • How awful, such a sad event !! And that caused by such young teenagers. Even when it’s the case he/they don’t get to go to prison, they have to carry this with them the rest of their lives and let’s hope and pray it makes these teenagers more responsible.
My thoughts and prayers are with the husband with the 2 children and their loved ones. And yes, my thoughts and prayers are also with those teenagers who caused this accident.

  • This is such a tragic occurrence – If the baby survives, he and his 2 year old sibling will be without their mum, all because of thoughtless teenagers. Condolences to the family.

  • Absolutely disgusting and heartbreaking. No way should his name be suppressed. Everyone knows if you are speeding you will most likely kill yourself or someone else. No doubt, with the justice system the way it is, he won’t be imprisoned. Absolutely senseless death. What are people teaching their children these days??
This makes me so angry and sad.
