Hilary Duff is being mum-shamed for piercing her eight-month-old daughter’s ears.

The 31-year-old shared a photo of her little girl, Banks, in her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, critics were quick to noticed that Banks had a visible earring on her right ear — and took to the comments of one of Hilary’s recent posts to slam her for it.

‘She has enough hair for a pony!’ Hilary wrote. ‘Oh and yes we pierced her ears.’

The judgement soon followed

‘I can’t believe someone who seemed [to have her head] so screwed on pierced her babies ears, causing unnecessary pain that isn’t for medical reasons done by a fully qualified medical professional is child abuse in my eyes, the risks are unreal and that throbbing pain in her ears no matter how happy and looked after your child is just isn’t justified in my eyes,’ wrote one.

‘Just won an unfollow after seeing you pierced her ears, poor baby. Bye!’ said another.

‘I can’t fathom why you would you think it’s okay to have your daughters ears pierced,’ said a third. ‘Causing her a tremendous amount of pain and discomfort.

‘Was she able to ask you to have them pierced? Was she able to agree to have them pierced?

‘Did she sit there with a smile on her face whilst a gun with a needle was placed on her ear? Did she say politely after, thank you? Or did she sit and cry and scream looking to you for comfort and to make it all better? And tell me how did it make you feel sitting there and watching her have pain inflicted on her unnecessarily?’

Another said, ‘Just wondering how she gave you consent to pierce her ears? unfollowing.’

It’s certainly not the first time Hilary has been mum-shamed, we have shared in the past how she copped it for hiring a sleep training. Read more on that here.

  • I personally feel 8 months is too young for ear piercing but I certainly wouldn’t class it as child abuse!

  • wow she just got her daughter’s ears pierced, I think everyone of those commentors needs to get over themselves just a tad! Lots of cultures do it and lots of mum’s do it – it’s not child abuse! I think Banks looks very cute and happy!

  • When you put in next to mother who starve their kids and beat them over nothing, its really not in the same league as child abuse.

  • I personally do not see how it is anyone’s business shaming another parent. Many cultures pierce their baby’s ears from a few years old. Personally I waited until my daughter asked me to get hers done, but that was my (and my husband’s) decision.

  • I don’t understand why parents pierce their babies, but in a lot of cultures is common practice.
