If you’re anything like us, you and your family are staying much closer to home these days.

Whether it’s after school each day, time together on the weekend or school holidays, being at home presents a wonderful opportunity to connect as a family, to have some fun and bank a whole pile of homemade memories.

Put like that, staying close to home sounds great…. in theory! But it can be hard to come up with ideas to keep the entire family interacting together. The goal is to keep our kids (and ourselves) active, engaged and most importantly having fun.

So we got together with the team at UNCLE TOBYS®, to give you an awesome list of ideas to help you raise your game when it comes to having a great time at home with your family. Made with delicious ingredients and the goodness of 100% Australian oats, UNCLE TOBYS® Muesli Bars are a nutritious and great-tasting way to fuel you and your family, both at home and on-the-go.

Here’s a list to keep handy:

Action Replay!

If your kids are all back to extracurricular sport but you can’t all be there to cheer them on, rope in other family members and have a backyard replay. Get the whole family involved and relive the netball, soccer or rugby action by having your little sports star recreate the highlight of their game.

Hand out UNCLE TOBYS® Muesli Bars as half time snacks. There’s a huge range of kids bars packed with delicious ingredients, and the goodness of 100% Aussie Oats. UNCLE TOBYS® Muesli Bars are a great tasting way to fuel your child’s day. Look out for the delicious Chewy Choc Chip and Yoghurt & Strawberry flavours.

Backyard Boot Camp.

Set up an age appropriate obstacle course in the backyard and set aside a few times a week for a family workout. No need to buy anything – just make use of whatever you have.  Use the bins to create a zigzag course, lay out brooms on the lawn for a low level hurdle, use the hose for a rope haul and lay out towels for floor exercises. Take turns running the session – and don’t let the kids work you too hard!

Glow in the Dark Disco.

When you do your next grocery order, add a pile of glow in the dark bracelets and necklaces. Have the kids deck themselves out and then set up a speaker in the back garden, or in a large dark room for a glow in the dark disco. The kids will love choreographing routines and performing in the dark seeing their coloured glow sticks light up the room. You’ll all be laughing, exercising and the kids will remember their disco for years.

Head to the Movies.

Make an event of watching a movie together. Have the kids spend the day setting up the ‘theatre’. Get them to make movie tickets with paper and pencils or print them out at home and ‘sell’ them to the rest of the family. If you already know what movie you are going to watch, raid the dress up box and all arrive at the cinema dressed to theme. If choosing a movie becomes a little tricky, have everyone add their favourite to a hat and you take turns choosing.

Together Dinners.

Make dinners a full day family event. You’ll be amazed how much the kids will love being involved in menu planning- If you are brave enough, let each family member select a course from starters, mains, to sides and desserts.

Set some time aside mid morning to review your menu and cooking plan – have an UNCLE TOBYS® Muesli Bar as you get the creative juices flowing! Create your own dinner prep playlist together, and another one for the meal! We love the chat that happens when we’re working with the kids around the kitchen bench. Set a theme for the dinner – dress up and set the table according to the theme.

Cook up a storm and then watch as everyone is even more enthusiastic about dinner they have all helped create.

Do you have any other home based activities you enjoy as a family? Keeping everyone active and energised is so important. We’d love to hear from you.
