Hello!

I freely admit I would rather sit on hot coals that do housework. I love a sparkling clean house, but in reality it lasts less than 5 seconds once the children storm back in.

WHY do they always manage to spill something on a clean floor? Does it become a magnet for food and drinks? I swear nothing ever gets dropped on a floor that hasn’t been mopped BUT as soon as I mop it – BAM there goes a drink out of a little hand, and yes I cry over spilt milk!!

Beds – not made they don’t get a look in. Made get jumped on or covers pulled off to make a cubby. HELLO why can’t cubbies be made when the covers are half off already?

Sorting laundry – a basket can sit unfolded and un-touched for days. As soon as I sort and fold it they are there rummaging through to find that blue t-shirt they swear was there last week.

Carpets – freshly vacuumed will always attract the left over sand in their sneakers that they have picked up whilst playing at school.

My least favourite chore is ironing. When will someone invent cotton that does not crease? My husband has to wear shirts to work, and this admittedly is the bulk of the ironing. I know people that iron underwear…. one word – DEDICATION! Why would you iron a garment that will never see the light of day?

Anyhoo because I hate ironing I normally leave it until late at night, and quickly iron one ready for the morning. Yes I know I should just iron all 340 of them at once but hey a girls got priorities right?

I leave the shirt in the laundry ready for hubby.

OMG I realised after hubby left this morning I hadn’t ironed a shirt. No biggie, he knows how to iron and does so often. Being my least favourite chore and all.

This morning was no different. I hadn’t ironed one last night. He left and I thought nothing of it. EXCEPT for the fact there was a shirt missing. After doing the washing over the weekend there was one shirt that I had hung to dry inside.

THAT shirt was gonski!

Not ironed!

Not one bit of Teflon had graced the collars and cuffs… OOPs!

I wondered if he noticed and could this mark a new era of the ‘non-ironed but looks like it has been ironed’ look!!!

  • i rarely iron, wish i had more time too – but clothes just sit in the washing up basket until we run out of clothes!

  • we have an iron and used it about 2 times. my mum used to iron everything, like uniforms but i don’t lol. i like the smell of ironed clothes though. an old friend of mine said that in the 70’s when hippies were cool and growing their hair and had it all straight, she was jealous because she had curly hair so she literally was ironing her hair! wow hey

    • i also know what you mean, clean their room, messy in an hour
fold all the clothes, the kids think that it’s time for a fashion show lol

  • I don’t iron, well maybe once a year on a special occasion!

    • Me too I very rarely iron if my daughters buy some new clothes I always tell them make sure that you do not have to iron it as they will be the ones doing it as I hate ironing with a passion

  • Cut my ironing in half by washing and hanging things on the line with care. Take them from the line and place on coat hangers. Then iron when necessary. A good steam iron cut ironing time in half.

  • I have never owned an iron. We just decided in our house that it’s a waste of time and haven’t ever looked back!

  • I hate ironing too! I figure that the family can only tolerate a certain level of clean, because if I ever (not often!) have a cleaning frenzy…..they have a mess frenzy.

  • With all the technology around, you’d think someone would have invented the ironing robot by now.

    • You would think, ironing is my worst house chore.

  • I actually know people who don’t own a iron or ironing board and have not ironed in years. My daughter does not iron much but her washing seems to come out of the washing machine wrinkle free , mine on the other hand well let’s just say ironing at times is a must.
Really can’t wait for the day where ironing is a thing of the past and folk are wearing just fresh washed items that have not been ironed and are wrinkled and crunched but no-one minds.

  • I’d seriously rather have teeth pulled without anaesthetic than do a basket of ironing, or clean the bathroom. Our house has never been so happy, not has it run so smoothly, since we decided to get a cleaner in for a couple of hours once a fortnight. Best decision we ever made.

  • Iron schmiron. I don’t iron unless REALLY necessary lol. Everything comes off the line & gets folded or hung straight away so we don’t need to iron. I do like making beds every day though.

  • The worst household job is ironing. I set up my ironing board permanently in my craft room with the idea that as soon as the clothes come off the line, I’ll iron them – this does away with an ironing basket and gets small amounts of ironing done quicker…sometimes I fail.

  • Haha.. Happens in every household with kids! Or men for that matter!
