Woman left an aggressive note on a restaurant window that read, “children should be seen and not heard”.

UK mother Danielle Styles, 25, was visiting her local Harvester restaurant in Gravesend with her sister, her friend and their four children, all of whom are aged under two.

A couple at the next table clearly weren’t too happy to find out that while they ate their meal, toddlers would be playing around them.

Written on a napkin, Ms Styles said she was “disgusted and upset” by the handwritten note that was held up against the window of the restaurant as the woman left, shares The Mirror.

“It was shocking to be honest, I still can’t believe it,” Ms Styles told The Mirror.

“I think it’s disgusting how someone can say that about four innocent babies.

“We were angry and upset that someone would write that about our kids. My eldest son was asleep in the pram and he woke up crying – every child cries.”

“But I think that’s what started the woman off, she was not happy.”

The full-time mum said her sister noticed the note first and when she looked around, the woman and the man she was with had run off to their car.

“My sister and I went out to see if we could talk to them but they drove off laughing and waving,” Danielle told.

seen not heard

“They are innocent little babies, they should not be spoken to like that at all.

“They are loving with each other and were just playing. When they were running around there was no one sitting where we were.”

“They didn’t go anywhere near the woman so I don’t understand what the issue was.

“It’s the Easter holidays, what would you expect.”

Ban kids in restaurants

RECENTLY a North Carolina restaurant’s banned children 5 and younger. They have noticed a big spike in diners since.

Since banning young children, Caruso’s, described as an upscale Italian restaurant in Mooresville, North Carolina, has seen reservations increase from 50 to 80 daily.

Caruso’s recently adopted the policy after owner and father-of-two Pasquale Caruso said too many crying, screaming and misbehaving children had brought complaints from customers.

He told the Mooresville Tribune he was beginning to lose money and customers.

Should people be more tolerant of families? Or do more restaurants need to set some strict rules?

  • I can understand childless couples wanting to go out for a quiet meal, with grown up conversation. I think some restaurants should and could be child free. There are a lot of places that accommodate families with children

  • Wow !! Children should be seen and not be heard ??!! You might as well stick a sticky tape on their mouths when you would take this comment serious.
However I do correct my older kids from being too noisy and running around in restaurants and when my younger kids are too noisy for a stretch of time (I keep them in the pram / highchair) I leave the restaurant.

  • If there is highchairs available those able to sir up properly I would put in highchairs. I have two reasons for saying this. 1. If they are running around not looking where they are going they could run into one staff and cause them to drop food or drinks. Hot food and drinks such as tea or coffee could burn a child. 2. Some people don’t feel safe with little ones going under their tables. They could accidentally kick the little ones if they don’t realise that’s where they are. You would probably never do this but at a hotel dining room one busy lunch time children were playing right a the entry/exit door – very dangerous – they could have escaped. None of the Mums were not watching them at all. We left as soon as we finished our meal – we didn’t want to witness the children being injured because they weren’t being supervised.
That was very rude of that couple though. Cowards!!!

  • I feel sorry for the couple who wrote the note. Imagine living in a world where the laughter of little children playing doesn’t make you smile :)

  • Kids can be a real pain in the bum when you are out for dinner but how exactly are they supposed to learn how to behave in public if they are never taken out?
