The Australian Healthy Food Guide has released a shocking image on popular breakfast cereals and the amount of sugar they contain, and these amounts are only PER CUP, so if you have a big bowl you’ll need to double or triple that sugar total!

I do worry about the amount of sugar that is in the kid’s food and I certainly don’t want my kids having a whole lot of sugar for breakfast.

We eat Weetbix or muesli on weekdays and usually toast and eggs on the weekend.

Here’s some great healthy MOMs breakfast recipes ideas:

  • We have no cereal at home. We do toast and eggs, sweet potato or banana pancakes without sugar or sweeteners added, yoghurt with homemade granola or porridge.

We gave up sugar 18 months ago and haven’t looked back!
In saying that, we do still have fruit and raw local honey.

  • We generally do a cooked breakfast from scratch, no nasties, but my little ones love Vita-Brits too. I prefer it over Weetbix for my kids as it has zero added sugar.

  • My daughter usually has Weetbix or organic oats with rice malt syrup. She’s not fussed on CocoPops etc thankfully. Hopefully they can put a regulation in place one day to limit the amount of sugars allowed in these things.

  • Relieved to see weetbix was a better performer as my toddler loves weetbix. We also have plain oats with milk.
