Finding time to exercise when you are a new mum can be difficult, so I’ve come up with a great exercise that you can do with your baby that will help get rid of flabby arms.

This exercise is all about stopping those flabby arms from developing.

This is one area that as a trainer I get asked about all the time.

How do I stop my arms from going flabby? Or, Help! How do I get rid of the flabbiness on my arms?

I think it is a universal problem for all women.  So here’s a great exercise to do with your new bub, and if you’re consistent you’ll start to feel the results in just a couple weeks.

Tricep Extension

This exercise is done using a resistance band. It is so much more effective than hand weights because your tricep muscles (the ones that go flabby) are fully engaged 100% of the time, meaning they work just that bit harder.

  1. To begin you place one foot on one end of the band and hold the other end in your hand with your arm bent behind you. You should have some tension on the band at all times.
  2. Take a breath in and as you breath out, slowly raise your hand up toward the sky (or ceiling).
  3. Slowly lower the band back to the beginning position.

This counts as one repetition. To achieve the best results from this exercise you should do three lots of ten (3×10) repetitions, on both arms, at least twice a week.

As well as helping with preventing flabby arms, this exercise will help with your upper body strength.

Mums are always lifting and carrying their babies as well as a whole range of other things, so increasing your upper body strength is really going to help you with all your lifting.

Good luck with the exercise and let me know how you go in the comments below!

  • I like exercises which incorporate bub like lifting bub up and down slowly or having bub under you while you do push ups and blow raspberries on their tummies as you do them.

  • Great little article, for a simple exercise to incorporate into your everyday routine. I’ve mostly done tricep extensions with weights so loved the suggestion to try with resistance bands for more complete activation of the muscle!

  • I started with yoga Downward Dogs. Now I have graduated to light weights. Slowly noticing a slight change.

    • That’s great! Sometimes it can take a while to see results, but if you’re persistent you’ll get there – and then it’s all worth it!
