With various restrictions and travel limitations still in place, Aussies may be feeling holiday deprived more than ever. While there is uncertainty about when we can travel abroad again, we look at ways that we can capture the feelings of a holiday high without leaving our home.

Apparently millennial parents are suffering the most, according to Expedia’s annual Vacation Deprivation study, which dives into trends and attitudes around annual leave.

68% of these younger mums and dads said that they were very, or somewhat vacation deprived, compared to the nation’s 56%.

While there is uncertainty about when Aussies can travel abroad again, Expedia suggests a few ways Aussies can evoke a Vacation State of Mind:

  1. Talk to friends and family about a holiday memory (85%)
  2. Look at photos and videos from past holidays (81%)
  3. Start planning the next holiday (65%)
  4. Dig out souvenirs you bought on holiday and use them (68%)
  5. Listen to music that reminds you of the holiday (60%)
  6. Cook the local cuisine or a meal from a favourite destination (53%)

Explorer Journal

To help families tap into their Vacation State of Mind anytime, anywhere, Expedia has launched a new downloadable kids adventure travel journal. Inspiring wanderlust, the Expedia Explorers Journals are full of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy.

From reminiscing about past trips, to learning about new destinations, the journals are full of creative prompts to seed curiosity, inspire conversations, and encourage self-expression. Download the Expedia Explorer Journal here.

“At Expedia, we’ve always believed in the power of travel to create joy and to enrich our hearts and minds. At a time where work, parenting and leisure is blurred, it’s important now more than ever to use these holiday top-ups and resources like the adventure journals to relieve stress, inspire wanderlust and dream of your next holiday,” said Alex Ozdowski, Expedia Director, Australia.

  • Feeling very holiday deprived, for the past 5 years, today is the day we would arrive in Port Douglas each year. Never mind going Overseas we are just wishing we could be in Queensland. Hoping everyone stay safe and this COVID-19 disappears and goes back to wherever it came from. (Missing family and friends)

  • Of course we feel this all but there is still a lot possible in our own country. I just pray to God that our parents stay alive and well cause both our parents live in Europe.
