Hello!

It’s something most of us suffer from (especially mums). We’re just not getting enough sleep even though we all know how important it is for our health and general wellbeing. We’ve got three easy steps on how to get the best sleep ever.

Elusive sleep is like a tiresome, relentless flirt for many of us. No matter how hard we chase her, we just simply can’t grasp her for long enough. Yawn!

And let’s face it, mums often get the least amount of sleep in the household and they’re notorious for sacrificing their sleep for the good of the household.

The importance of sleep has been documented in many articles including being touched upon by prominent religious sages, especially as it pertains to protecting our hearts, kidneys, brain from long-term damage and much more. Everything we need, to be good mothers!

How To Get The Best Sleep Ever!

Now that we’ve established that sleeping in on those lazy Sunday mornings can actually be good for us (good news that deserves to be celebrated!), let’s look into how to help us have the best sleep we can get.

And bonus – all of these solutions are 100% natural!

Turmeric in some warm milk should make those eyelids heavy … zzz

There’s a reason Turmeric has been doing the rounds for years and that’s because we can rarely find a spice that presents us with so many countless health benefits. Turmeric’s main property, curcumin is popular for its calming and anti-inflammatory values as well which should aid in halting or alleviating any pain or discomfort you may be feeling that is keeping you up nights.

You may recall those sweet memories of a time mum used to bring you a warm glass of milk to drink before you slept for the night. This act of a mother’s kindness spans generations and territories for one main reason – warm milk induces a peaceful night’s sleep. Milk contains the amino acid tryptophan which is known to assist in inducing sleep.

Mix these two natural miracle wonders and you have a powerful concoction that should kick the worst case of insomnia to the kerb! You’ll be waking up in the morning feeling refreshed and energised for whatever the day chooses to throw your way.

As a bonus tip, make sure to add a little freshly ground black pepper to help your body absorb the curcumin better and for those of you with a sweet tooth, add a little bit of organic honey to make it more palatable.

And voila, you’re on your way to the best sleep you’ll ever have!

Need some Sleeping Beauty in your life?

We all need our beauty sleep but like everything else in our modern hectic lives, we’re trying to pack in as much as we can in a limited span of time.

This is exactly why it is so very important to have an effective night moisturising care routine.

Yes, yes, beauty is truly skin deep but it doesn’t hurt to have a helping hand once in a while, does it? An effective nourishing, rich and slightly oilier version of your day care moisturisers is a wonderful way to help you sleep at night.

Massaging our face and neck lightly in a circular motion with an all-natural cream (made with completely natural ingredients) just before we sleep puts our body in rest activation mode. This slight and subtle action helps us destress after our hectic day, soothing our body both physically and emotionally, gearing us up (or down rather) for a good night’s rest.

Even though it sounds simple enough, don’t overlook taking care of your skin even while it rests.

Is a Nasty Cough keeping you up?

If anyone in the house is coughing a storm up at night (particularly the kids), chances are you’ll be going into the next day with some sunglasses to hide the dark circles under your eyes you’ll be sporting for the rest of the day.

Rub some Vicks balm on the cougher’s chest and give them a teaspoon of Buckwheat Honey just before getting into bed.

This dark coloured, potent flavoured honey is commonly referred to as a superfood and is also a potential natural remedy to coughs. Buckwheat Honey is shown to reduce nocturnal coughing if a small quantity is consumed prior to sleeping. Most importantly, Buckwheat Honey is known to contain the strongest antioxidant content of all honey’s due to its superior combination of phenolic compounds, peptides, organic acids, enzymes and Mailard reaction attributes, so sleep isn’t the only aspect of our lives benefiting from this miracle of Mother Nature!

There you have it, three insanely easy ways to get the best sleep for general wellbeing improvement and balance.

Remember that sleep is one of those gifts from Nature we all have to better our lives from a physical, spiritual and emotional perspective so don’t let it go to waste. It truly is one of the best medicines you can give yourself for optimum health.

  • I find it very hard to get the sleep I need. I worked permanent night shift for 10 years and haven’t been able to get into a proper sleep pattern. It’s unusual for me to get more than 3 hours sleep and it’s been a lot worse since my late husband passed away. Sleeping pills make me aggressive so I’ve refused to use them. Hope these tips work for others.

  • I wish something would help me sleep. Most nights I am lucky to get 3-4 hours of sleep. My problem is my Parkinson’s Disease keeps me from sleeping :( I have tried everything I can think of except sleeping tablets and I don’t want to resort to them, or become addicted like I had done years ago. You name it, I have tried it.
