Edible glitter looks amazing on birthday cakes and it’s really easy to make with only two ingredients! Impress the kids and make some for their next birthday cake.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup of raw sugar (for each colour)
  • 1/2 teaspoon food colouring

Method:

  1. Combine sugar with the food colouring.
  2. Repeat for as many colours as required.
  3. Place each colour on foil and spread out.
  4. Bake in the oven for 10 mins at 180 degrees, this helps makes it shiny.
  5. Let the glitter cool and then it’s ready to decorate with.

What is on the birthday cake wishlist at your house this year?

  • This edible glitter is such a clever idea. I never knew that this recipe existed, definitely one to try perhaps gor my daughter’s 9th Birthday in August.

  • Nice idea but I wouldn’t like to give this to my kids or eat it myself.
Food coloring is poisonous and sugar is nothing else then an empty calorie what is bad for your health and teeth.

  • Cool, I was wondering why you’d want to eat glitter – from the headline. Good idea on cakes!

  • You can buy natural food colourings which don’t have unneccesary chemicals in them, usually in the same section as the others. Just check the labels on the bottles.

    • Yep, would be buying the natural dyes even though they don’t have the vibrant colours of the other ones.

      • Have you ever checked what some of the artificial food colourings are made from. Unless they are now using different ingredients the red is made from cockroaches.

  • Personal I don’t think food colouring isn’t edible, I call it food poisoning….
