Most kids love face paint and making your own this school holidays will be a fun activity for the kids.

What you’ll need:

  • Cornflour
  • Zinc cream (nappy cream works great)
  • Food colouring
  • Jars/containers to store it

Step 1: Mix 4 teaspoons of zinc cream with 1 teaspoon of cornflour – you can add more cornflour if it’s too runny

Step 2: Add colouring until you get the colour you want

Step 3: Repeat until you have made a selection of colours

Now you’re ready to do some face painting!

I am definitely going to make some this school holidays!

  • If I could paint faces, I would absolutely make some of this paint. Made from things in your kitchen, it’s gotta be better then shop bought stuff

  • This is great! There are some really nasty face paints out there, home made is a fa gastric option, and cheaper too!

  • It should come your face with a good wash the same as commercially done facepainting does. At least if the kids do it you can show them how to do it without it being right in against the corner of their eyes like some of the professionals do. Dress them in old clothes. if the kids have got art smocks an even better idea. If you spray the area of clothing with a good pre-wash stain remover and give it a quick rub then wash as normal it should come out. Some people use Preen Gold prewash stain remover powder, add a few drops of water to make it like a paste, rub it into the stain the into the washing machine as normal. I get most stains off with Orange Power Pre-wash stain remover spray. You need less and it works better than some of the other brands. It doesn’t smell like chemical as much as others do. On reading the label on the container, I also found out that it is endorsed by Planet Ark.

  • what an interesting recipe , many would have to be careful of what colourings/dyes to use but at least you know what you are putting on the skin.
