Whether it’s the kids school shoes or your work shoes, leather shoes look best after having a polish.

Now you can polish expertly just like the professionals do! Just follow these simple tips:

1. Remove shoelaces so that the tongue can be cleaned properly.

2. Rub shoes with polish

3. Brush shoe with brush to remove loose polish

4. Polish shoe with a cloth

  • What a treat to watch this man polish his shoes. It took me back to the days I used to watch my grandfather and father polish their shoes. My grandfather and father used to apply the same procedure as these men, but the last thing they did, especially my grandfather was he spat on the toe and rubbed in and then took his cloth and buffed up the area and by the time he had finished you were able to see your reflection in the top of the shoe. Remarkable. This clip revived good memories for me as my grandfather and father taught me and my brother how to clean and look after our school shoes. And the man in the video is correct, for if you polish and clean your shoes regularly they will last a long time because the polish keeps them looking good and protects. Well done.

  • My kids like helping to polish their shoes. We mostly do this task outside on the grass, so the loose bits of polish don’t end up all over my floor. I don’t use a cloth to buff off but do use a second clean brush to go over it and polish it up nicely. Not a job we do often enough, but it does get done.

  • This is great. I learnt how to polish shoes from my grandfather. It’s more rewarding polishing shoes properly then relying on the liquid polishes.

  • This is a great guide. I remember my Dad used to polish all our school shoes (I have 3 siblings) on a Sunday night ready for the week ahead.

  • I have always polished shoes in the past , especialy the kids black school shoes and have got the brush and shoe polish . I didn’t know you had to have a polishing cloth and always wondered why it doesn’t shine as good as it should be . Now I know !

  • once upon a time I actually spit polished my shoes for work to get that perfect shine! – nothing like a good pair of polished shoes, although nothing beats a well loved, worn and comfortable pair of sneaks!
