Walls look great when they are freshly painted but no matter how careful you are it’s inevitable you will get some marks on them, especially if you have kids.

I’ve tried many products to remove marks but none work as well as this solution.

DIY wall stain remover

What you’ll need:

  • water
  • white vinegar
  • ammonia
  • baking soda
  • 2 buckets
  • 2 sponges
  • rubber gloves

Method:

  1. Fill a bucket with 3 1/2 litres of warm water. Add 1 cup of vinegar, 1 cup of ammonia and 1/4 of a cup of baking soda. Stir to combine.
  2. Fill your second bucket with clean warm water.
  3. Rub your stains with the cleaning mix.
  4. Rinse the mixture off your walls by wiping it down with clean water.
  5. Dry walls with a cloth if you wish.

This method removed all my stubborn stains and made my walls look freshly painted again.

Try it out and let me know how you go. Please add your comment below.

  • Thankfully my kids never drew on the walls other then when they were allowed to. We were going to renovate so the kids were allowed to draw on the walls in the lounge area and stairway. They loved it.

  • I find Magic Erasers are fantastic at removing marks. I haven’t had to remove permanent marker yet but I’ve used them on walls & tile when I’ve had to move. They are fantastic.

  • This sounds good. I am going to try it as my son has done some art using crayons on the walls

  • The ammonia has me a bit concerned as I have little ones but I’m sure it would be great for people who don’t!
I guess I’ll be using this after my kids have given their Nanny or Aunt & Uncles an inappropriately placed piece of art!

  • I’ll be trying this. My youngest has been very good up until recently with staying away from walls. Now it’s the walls and floors, ugh!

  • In going to give this a go. Some “art” by the kids in permanent marker has proven very stubborn!

  • I’d love to try this but I get dizzy whenever I smell ammonia. It sounds like a great way to clean your walls without using expensive chemicals though.

  • I have always found that the product Nifty works extremely well in this situation and also on black scuff marks on tiles. No ammonia smell at all.

    • Thanks for your suggestion. I am allergic to Ammonia. The funes from it make my eyes sting and run. I can’t stay in a room with it becuase I literally can’t see where I am or what I am supposed to be doing.
