A seven-year-old boy left a heartbreaking letter for his friends before he died.

Marshall Clark, from Plymouth in Devon, told his friends that he will be able to ride slides, eat strawberries, run, talk and enjoy his childhood in heaven, reports Daily Mail.

The schoolboy suffered a rare genetic illness Late Infantile Batten Disease – a disorder in the nervous system.

Little Marshall was left bedridden for 10 months and lost vision, mobility and ability to communicate.

He died just days before his eighth birthday and his grieving family published his message to his loved ones on his grandmother Elsie’s online blog.

She said: ‘He is in heaven now. This was his hell and now he is free.’

In the letter, Marshall had described all the things he was now able to do.

He wrote: By the time you read this, I will be in Heaven. ‘It’s okay because nana has told me all about it (heaven)and about all the wonderful things I will be able to do when I am there.

‘There will be loads of slides and strawberries and cupcakes and I will be able to eat again and run and watch videos.

‘Be happy for me that I am no longer trapped in a body that stopped me from enjoying my childhood. I am now free to do all the things I have missed so very much.’

Marshall was diagnosed with the condition in September 2013, becoming one of only 24 children in the UK to suffer from the disease.

  • So sad that he had to leave this physical earth, but, like all who have left us, I hope/believe he is in a better place.

  • What an incredible boy, wow. One of the worst things to read is about a child dying for whatever reason. It shouldn’t happen, they have a whole life ahead of them. I really hope this boy’s Nana is right and her grandson is having the time of his life riding slides and eating strawberries and cupcakes. R.I.P. brave one.

  • Living in those conditions must be so frustrating, in particular for a child.
At least he doesn’t suffer anymore now. Little one. :-(

  • That may not necessarily been the case. An Auntie of mine sadly passed away after a brain tumor left her in the same condition for a few weeks before she death. She had scribbled down a few notes whilst resting alone. She got her husband to write down in full the rest of what she what she wanted said, the songs she wanted sung and told him what poems she would like included. A few days later she asked him to read it to her. She also asked her sister to read it. She took it home and read it as she couldn’t cope with reading it in front of her in the hospital. Two weeks later she could no longer speak more than one word at a time.

  • I suspect that as this refers to things that happened after he couldn’t talk or use his ipad, the letter may not have been entirely authored by him.
