Hello!

Apparently it is … the Zip HydroTap we installed in Sue’s house has had everyone buzzing for weeks now.

It’s also had Sue, hubby, her 3 kids and half the neighbourhood kids hydrating like never before. So it’s a great story all round.

You may remember we ran a competition here on Mouths of Mums in December 2016 where MoM members could Enter to WIN a Zip HydroTap.

Sue was our lucky winner and in January, the team from Zip installed the Zip HydroTap. Suddenly everyone had access to filtered chilled water, sparkling water and boiling water; all from one beautifully designed and very streamlined Zip HydroTap right by the sink.

We wanted to check out the action so visited Sue and two of her children at home last week.

“I was so excited when we won. But it wasn’t just me, my children were equally excited.

To see my 16 year old son excited about a water tap it is not something you see everyday but he was really pumped. When it was installed he was bringing all his friends around to drink water from the Zip tap!”

“I was delighted they were all drinking more water but had to laugh that we were hydrating the neighbourhood too!”

“Before we had the Zip HydroTap installed we had an on-counter water dispenser which was quite bulky and used up precious bench space. It had to be filled manually too so you can imagine I was always chasing the kids to refill as they used the water! The filter also had to be plugged in at counter level which meant that I was down to only one available electrical socket for other appliances – not ideal!

The Zip HydroTap has solved all of those dilemmas … the unit is just one sleek tap that is perfectly integrated into the benchtop and the power, filter and the unit is all neatly stored inside the cupboard under the sink” Sue told us.

“Before the Zip HydroTap, my benchtop was a cluttered mess. Now it’s one sleek unit perfectly installed”

Sue is also a qualified nutritionist which is why having her family drink plenty of water every day is a huge priority.

“As a nutritionist I know how important it is to keep hydrated, particularly with the kids doing a lot of sport in the summer weather. Because of the complexities around the on counter water dispenser we weren’t drinking as much water as we would have liked.

“Hydration is so important. Over 60% of our body is water.”

Sue shared with us that water is required for every biochemical process in our body and when we don’t have it our body will take it from other areas. Be it your blood or your cells and this could mean that our bodies aren’t functioning properly.

“If someone complains they are constipated, I will say, drink more water.

If I have a client with metabolic issues, I will say drink more water.

Even people with stress related issues, I will say drink more water.

Water is fundamental to our health”.

Sue’s top tips for staying hydrated

  1. If someone offers you a glass of water, say yes, even if you don’t feel you want it
  2. Drink before you feel thirsty
  3. Carry water around with you wherever you go. In your car, in your bag on your desk at work (and remember to sip it all through the day)
  4. Have a trigger that reminds you to drink water – It might be a time trigger, it might be when you look at something, it might be when you complete one aspect of your work. But something that will trigger you to take that drink because we don’t always remember
  5. If you’re feeling peckish, check how long it’s been since you’ve had a good drink of water. Often we confuse thirsty with hungry.

“Before the Zip HydroTap our benchtop was a mess. Now it’s SO easy for all of us to stay hydrated”

When it came to choosing her Zip HydroTap Sue said there was a huge range of taps to choose from and it was easy to select one to fit in with her kitchen.

“I was a bit concerned it would interrupt the flow of working around my sink but I honestly don’t even notice it is there”.

The Zip HydroTap Sue chose has cold filtered water, cold filtered sparkling water and also instantaneous boiling water.

“I used to get my sparkling water delivered, it took up a lot fridge space and storage space. To have it literally on tap has been a huge convenience for us.

I just like having my fridge space back!”

“The kids find it particularly easy how to use, in fact they have helped me to use it more efficiently. And My mum who is 82 used to always ask me to make her tea – now she happily presses the buttons and there’s her boiling water!”

Sue’s top 3 reasons for loving the Zip HydroTap

  1. “The Zip HydroTap boiling water function makes cooking so quick – boiling water in a flash means dinner is cooking faster”
  2. “The Zip HydroTap looks really good”
  3. I have my bench space AND my fridge space back now that the Zip HydroTap has replaced my bulky counter unit and the bottles and bottles of sparkling water”

“But the biggest bonus to having the Zip HydroTap really has been that everyone in our family AND all our friends are drinking so much water than before! It makes me feel so good to watch all that water hydrating everyone so beautifully!”

  • There is times when our tap water tastes revulting and visitors have commented about it too – even some who would never normally complain about anything at another person’s house. I resort to bottled water sometimes too. I enjoy the occasional drink of sparkling water. I have checked and buy the one with the least salt in it. I avoid cool drinks, especially cola.

  • I’d love to have one of these, but simply can not afford it.

  • Sounds like a very handy thing to have and the fact that it doesn’t take up any room is a great idea. We actually use rain water from our tanks. Would love to try this idea at some stage.

  • sounds interesting, just wondering the power costs. How fast it can go from someone wanting boiling water then cold water. Well worth looking into to see what is involved and the costs too.

  • My friend has one and it’s absolutely great ! You see them often in hospitals as well.
Pity enough we have a rented house and I can’t just place one.

  • I remember this comp. It appeared then disappeared then re-appeared. I entered it, obviously didn’t win it sadly. It looks like a great addition to the kitchen
