We all want to achieve a flawless complexion with minimal fuss and a natural finish.

Moving into the warmer months where our skin perspires and our makeup tends to shift more easily than in the cooler months I have put together my top five tips to help you achieve a great, fuss-free base.

1. Daily Skin Care Regime

It is essential to follow a daily skin care regime. I always cleanse and moisturise in the morning to help wake-up and reenergise my skin.

I use a moisturiser that contains an SPF to protect my skin against the suns harmful rays (helping to keep those wrinkles at bay)! Of an evening I cleanse my skin again, ensuring I remove all makeup residue before I apply a serum (full of antioxidants which nourish and hydrate the skin).

I allow a minute or two before applying my evening moisturiser (no SPF). If you have an oily skin type a quality serum may be all you need to apply after cleansing. Serum is like a blast of goodness that penetrates the skin deeper layers and helps to counteract any damage done by pollution, sun and dehydration.

I use an exfoliant one to two times a week to remove and dead skin cells and brighten my complexion. There are a variety of exfoliants, serums and moisturisers out there to suit everyone.

Throw in a spa or at-home hydrating mask every now and again just to give your skin some extra TLC.

2. Primer

Primer is essential in creating a flawless base. Primer creates a protective barrier between your skin and your foundation. A primer is designed to smooth out your skin tone and texture allowing your makeup to glide on and stay in place for longer.

I use primer everyday to give me a smoother, more even, long lasting foundation.

3. Concealer

If you have any blemishes, spots and/or dark circles you wish to cover up I would go with a good concealer.

There are a number concealers in the market that have a few different shades in one palette. These are fantastic as you can blend the different shades to create your own personalised colour. A green base concealer will help to counteract redness in the skin and a yellow/orange base will help counteract dark circles/spots.

Be careful not to over apply, a little will go a long way, a lot will only highlight the problem area.

4. Foundation

Always select a foundation based on the type of coverage you like (light, medium, full coverage) and one that is suitable for your skin type (normal, dry, oily) if you stick to these two fundamentals when selecting your foundation you cannot go wrong.

During the warmer months I tend to apply foundation only to my t-zone (nose, cheeks and chin) I avoid my forehead and the area around my hairline.

This ensures minimal movement to my foundation as it is well away from the areas that are likely to perspire and the feature focus area of my face remains flawless.

Look for a pressed powder that you can throw into your purse so you can touch up throughout the day and keep the shine at bay.

5. Colour

For a sun kissed glow I apply bronzer or blush to the apples of my cheeks (smile in the mirror – the raised section is where your cheeks are).

I also lightly wave my blush/bronzer brush across the top of my forehead and across my nose to give me a healthy summer glow. These areas are when the sun naturally hits your face.

Remember apply a very light dusting of colour here to ensure a natural looking radiance.

Highlight – the trick is to remember ‘high’ light. Apply a wash of highlight whether it be powder or cream highlighter to the ‘high’ points of your face (top of your cheek bones towards your hair line, your brow bones just under your eyebrows and to your cupids bow).

This will give your skin a beautiful healthy radiant glow.

Remember less is more in our hot Australian summers. The less product applied means the more your base will stay in place.

  • Great tips here for make up wearers. I don’t wear make up so, apart from the cleansing and moisturising (which I already do) I can’t use any of these useful tips
