Two ten-year-old children have been arrested after they allegedly mutilated goldfish and trashed a northern Adelaide child care centre.

The childcare’s pet gold fish were cut up with scissors, and the rooms defecated and urinated in during the sickening vandal attack, reports Daily Mail.

Two ten-year-old children have been arrested but five children all aged 10-and-under were alleged to have broken into the child care centre before perpetrating the vile acts on Sunday.

In the rampage, the children destroyed walls and computers, and covered the rooms in paint, according to Seven News.

But in the most vile and gruesome act, the child care’s fish tank was smashed, and the fish cut up with scissors.

In response to the shocking discovery, a visibly shaken kindergarten director Jill Rogers said ‘our children were very attached to our fish’.

A pet budgie was also reported missing after the attack.

The community was quick to lend a hand, with donations coming in as quickly as destroyed equipment was taken out.

Replacement books and a new fish tank were donated to ensure the children did not arrive to empty rooms and play areas.

Insurance will cover the full damage, but is expected to take some time.

This is just sickening!

  • This is just sick. Anyone who can harm animals… well that’s often where the hard crimes start. Anita Cobby’s killers had done similar things with sheep before they moved on to her. I think that laws are not tough enough on our youth. And this is coming from someone who’s brother spent a good portion of his earlier years in jail. He started off as a juvenile and kept getting a slap on the wrist so it became a challenge to do worse things and see if he could get away with it. Youths like this need to be locked up and not dealt with lightly.

  • I hope these children can be rehabilitated and treated before they reach adolescence and adulthood.

  • Hopefully the children responsible will be forced to repair some of the damage the same as older ones do community service.
I hope the repairs can be completed by the end of the school holidays starting soon. Kindergartens are usually partly Govt. funded.
Several years ago a Kindergarten building in the southern suburbs was destroyed by fire a week or so before the school holidays. It was attached to a Govt school that also included R- Year 12. Fortunately It was repaired during the school holidays. The kindergarten was able to use a school room normally used for other activities for 2 days. There was a lot children who suffered as a result of living near the school and seeing the building on fire. The only pets lost were fish which died from the smoke and fumes. The others had all gone to homes for the weekend.

  • Sickening and professional support should be given in the form of the law and therapy. Unimaginable for anyone to commit these acts, let alone children.

  • I would be ashamed if it was one of my kids. They would be grounded in their bedroom for a year with basic meals and only allowed to go to school and out to do community service

  • If i was the parent of one of the 10 years old I think i would be asking a medical professional for a mental health check. Any child that could chop up a goldfish like that Is a concern.

    • I would suggest intervention as these acts show a lack of empathy.

  • That’s terrible, the children who committed these acts were so young, we were there parents, did the parents know what their children were up to?
