Kim Ferguson is a loving mum to two adoring girls.

A decade ago, the former fashion buyer for David Jones was diagnosed with bowel cancer, and more recently, Kim and her girls were given the devastating news that her cancer was terminal, leaving Kim with just a year to live.

While the news was met with indelible sadness, Kim decided that she wanted to celebrate her final days, looking to her lifelong love of fashion to beat cancer “one outfit at a time” by posting a new look on Instagram each day, for 365 days.

Talking to The Daily Telegraph last week, Kim spoke of her desire to inspire other people with cancer.

“I am just interested in encouraging people to keep going — one step at a time, one photo at a time, one outfit at a time. Sometimes it get’s down to being one breath at a time.”

“I want to say to people who get diagnosed with cancer that is what you do next. You get dressed every day and try to look your best and feel your best and look after your body the best way you can.”

Kim, who is mum to Elle, a fashion blogger, and Lucie, who is behind the popular jewellery brand Baby Anything, shared her 171st outfit on social media this morning, as she filmed a segment for Channel 9’s Today, posting:

Outfit 171. 194 to go. Silk shirt #scanlan&theodore animal print flares #spelldesigns Here I am in my lounge room blinded by the light. I am actually blinded by the love. Thank you to the very patient sound & cameramen who worked with us this morning. Thank you to Sharna @today for pulling it together for us. Thank you to Alisha for the thoughtful interview, and thank you to my old & new followers for the amazing comments of love & support. Thank you also to my two beautiful girls for helping to get it all together this morning . Sounds like I am rehearsing my Golden Globes acceptance speech. Well it is sort of, because it is with much gratitude that I accept the positive vibes & love you have shared with me this morning. Thank you. Let’s have a beautiful week. Xxx”

Kim and her girls have been through such a turbulent time over the last 10 years, showing an incredible amount of strength and determination in the process.

“Every time I have been told I was going to die, the girls and I have had to pick ourselves up from the floor and go again,” she said.

“We have been through such a journey. We have been so close to the wire so many times that it kind of makes you really appreciate anything that you can do outside of this cancer trip.”

From the team at Mouths of Mums, we want to send all our love, prayers and support to Kim, Elle and Lucie.

  • Theres heaps of cancers in my step fathers side of the family and my step father had his sister n brother die from it. His uncle whos 97 is dying from cancer at the moment has decided to grow a mo n bless each day being alive. Prayers n thoughts are with u.

    • what a similar story to what has happened in my family. We thought it was the male line carrying the gene because pop died from lung cancer, but then his grandson and my cousin died from another type of cancer. Then my step dads brother had prostate and recently his sister died from breast and pancreatic cancer. My step father whom I have known as a father since I was six is classed as terminal, with two type of cancer that is regionalised. Nobody can say if or when, it’s just a waiting game to see how the cells react to the treatment. It is hard being interstate. I feel sort of helpless.
