Kim Kardashian has sparked concerns over the dangerous way she sleeps her newborn baby boy.

Kim, 37, shared the first photo of her new baby, Psalm West, snuggled up in his crib.

But while most people were losing their minds over the name ‘Psalm,’ some eagle-eyed parents and doctors were more concerned with the newborn’s dangerous sleeping arrangements.

In the photo baby Psalm is wearing a knit hat and wrapped up in a white blanket sleeping on top of a cot insert placed on top of the mattress.

‘Rather concerned about the name. Rather more concerned about the mattressy pillow thing baby is sleeping on and the blankets covering the baby,’ wrote one, adding the hashtag #sids.

‘I can’t help it: all I can see are SIDS risks, it’s my job. Cot bumpers restricting air flow, loose covers and things under his head.’

‘Please please please go pay an overpriced “sleep consultant” to get all that unnecessary padding, bumpers, and blankets out of your child’s crib so they are not at risk for SIDS. I’ve tried and failed to resuscitate too many children that have died this way. Signed, An ER doctor,’ wrote Dr. Steve Carroll.

‘Congrats on your adorable baby,’ Dr. Jen Trachtenberg, a pediatrician, added. ‘As a pediatrician I just want parents to know the best way to reduce the risk of SIDS is to sleep on back, use firm crib mattress — no added blankets, pillows, bumpers, soft bedding, sleep positioners, plush toys.

‘As a huge social media influencer, @KimKardashian so many people follow you and it can be confusing when seeing these adorable baby images and then may think it’s safe to do for their own baby,’ she added.

Dr. Ashely Alker wrote, ‘Congratulations on you baby!’ Please help promote safe sleeping for others and to keep your baby safe. Avoid SIDS.’

We have previously shared one mums warning to all parents, to be aware of the dangers of baby cot inserts, following her baby girls death. Read her tragic story here.

SIDS recommendations

A safe sleeping environment means that all potential dangers have been removed and the baby is sleeping in a safe place. The ideal place for a baby to sleep is in a safe cot, on a safe mattress, with safe bedding in a safe sleeping place, both night and day.

Unsafe settings for baby’s sleep-time include leaving baby unattended on an adult bed or bunk bed, placing baby on a waterbed, beanbag, couch, pillow or cushion, or with a sleeping adult or child on a couch, sofa or chair.

  • This time I think the comments are quite useful. So I hope she will listen to all the concerns made.

  • Honestly think about it would she really care? Sorry to sound harsh but should just go out and buy another baby. All Kim Kardashian is worried about is how she looks and what she’s got. Doesn’t actually stop to appreciate that there is a life literally in her hands.

  • Hopefully shes smart enough to listen to everyones concerns and talk to her doctor about how to ensure it is safe. Some people don’t listen to the SIDs warnings but they need to be vigilant and be upto date with all information because SIDs doesn’t discriminate.

  • yeah I would not do that

  • I can agree with the comments

  • For once the comments are justified! Not safe for the little one.

  • One of the rare occasions where I think a pile on of critical comments would be justified.

    • Because it’s such a pile of critical comments, it’s the question if these comments reach her at all.

  • Surely someone has told her this before? The soft mattress/bumper isn’t safe for the baby.

  • While she might have been watching the baby the whole time the fact that the child is on top of the mattress in an insert, with a hat on and loose blankets around it is such as SIDS risk, and I agree some of her friends might not realize the dangers of these and put their children in the same set up with dire consequences

  • It’s not so much that her baby is unsafe there isn’t enough information but that other people may be influx to copy the setup.

  • Yeah I guess we don’t know the behind the scenes. The baby may have been watched while sleeping like that.

  • I’m looking at a picture of my eldest in the hospital. She was prem. Look to all the dangers: on her belly and on a pillow !

    • Is you baby actually her stomach or one side? I remember seeing photos of babies (who are now in their 30s put in cribs laying on one side – it was normal procedure then). Before swaddles were introduced some Mums wrapped their babies firmly or tightly in baby blankets and tucked the extra length of them under their feet.

  • I really hope this was just for the photo!
