Kim Kardashian West posted a sweet picture of her son Saint in his car seat, she obviously never expected the photo to ignite a massive debate in the comment section.

The Facebook picture shows Saint facing forward in his car seat, which some followers have really taken issue with.

The comments in excess of 1700 include:

“He is so cute let’s protect this handsome boy by making sure is rear facing.”

“Needs to be rear facing. Ossification of vertebrae doesn’t happen until between 4-6 years. A one year old can be internally decapitated, which is almost always fatal, by just a quarter-inch stretch in their neck from an accident. Please rear face your children until they max out the seat, usually either 40 or 50 lbs.”

“I’m not trying to judge or anything. All mom’s aren’t perfect and we all make mistakes. But clearly he isn’t facing the right way. From mommy to mommy please rear face him until two. With all the paparazzi following you all the time you’re at a bigger risk getting into an accident. Don’t risk INTERNAL DECAPATIAION or any other injuries if they could be prevented!”

“It’s illegal to have a child facing forward in California that is less than 2 years old. Please turn his car seat around, it’s not too late! ”

“He should really still be rear facing.”

“He’s very cute, but it would be safer for him to be back facing in his seat.”

You get the picture. Many of her fans are defending her actions and pointing out that we don’t actually know what country she is even in during this photo and therefore have no idea what the carseat regulations might be.

The mummy shamers are certainly all over her once again.  But are they right in this case?

  • They could be right. But some babies are longer then others and simply don’t fit rear facing. I love the cup holder on the seat!

  • she would do what was acceptable by her laws because she would know about the scrutiny that she would face, right?

  • The laws of the state should be followed.

  • Surely the law takes into account the size of the child. A child with long legs will not fit facing rear for as long as a smaller child.

  • I like tat it’s not competitive.

  • Depending on the car, he could BE rear facing.

  • If rear facing is safer then it is good advice. He is soooo cute.

  • Not ok to shame each other. But when an advice is made in a respectful and caring way, it is ok to me. But then again there is a difference between an asked and unasked advice. I think it’s good to be careful to give unasked advice, depending if there is real danger or not. And when you feel for giving an unasked advice it might be good to do this in a private message, not publicly !

  • The comments are just being helpful and concerned. At least she has him in a car seat. I see so many kids around here that aren’t even at school yet and not in any seat at all.

    • I have seen this too and it horrifies me – unbelievable too with the amount of education around car seat safety.

  • I would assume she knows the laws in her state and is following them.

    • Indeed, you would expect that, wouldn’t you?

  • None of the comments in the article seem rude – just concern about car seat safety.

  • I’m pretty sure her entourage would have double checked that she wasn’t going to break any rules by having this particular child seat in the car facing the way it is –

I’m also sure that the 1700+ people that have commented and told her to turn him around are not going to make her turn him around so not sure why they felt the need to do it!

  • Oh he is so adorable! Safety of the little one should come first – I’m sure she would be horrified if she was putting him in harms way.

  • I think this time they are right. The advice looks very sensible to me. Following the rule could save her child’s life.
