Hello!

It’s very, very clear that money is no object for Kim Kardashian and Kanye West – when it comes to them, their house and their baby.

In the last week, we’ve been treated to a running commentary on the shopping list of the pair.  Here’s where we’re at:

They splashed out on a $1,200 car seat for their newborn daughter. Offering ‘state-of-the-art safety features’, the Orbit Baby G2 comes complete with ‘plush microfibre upholstery’ and a full coverage UV sunshade. Apparently it also features a ‘paparazzi shield extension’ to shelter baby Nori from prying eyes.

We may gasp at that cost for a car seat but it pales in comparison to the fact that they recently spent an astounding £750,000 on six special-edition luxury beds for their $11 million Bel Air mansion. Wow we vote for sleepovers at theirs! Apparently they enlisted the services of the company that supplies beds for London’s exclusive Savoy Hotel.

And while you’re there for your sleepover, your tush is in for a royal treat.  At the princely sum of £475,000 their mansion will sport four gold-plated toilets which will ensure the Kimye family have a throne fit for royalty wherever they when their bladders call!

So, clearly money is no object.  To drop over £1,200,000 in a few weeks would, for the vast majority of us, be completely unachievable and even unimaginable.  In Aussie dollars, that’s close to $2,000,000!

Some would argue that if you’ve got it, spend it and flaunt it! Others would say they have to put up with the paparazzi on a daily basis and work hard for their money.

I say if you’ve got it in spades the way this pair obviously do, why not do something that really means something.  Sure buy yourself beautiful beds (I think I saw Harvey Norman advertising some top of the line beds for $10,000 in an email this morning) and go the whole hog with your toilets (last time I renovated I remember wishing I could justify $1200 for a Villeroy & Boch toilet suite) but please think about better ways to spend your money.

Do something that will make a difference to someone other than yourself.  Take some responsibility and respect the fact that you are both huge because millions of people who probably struggle every day to make ends meet adore you, follow you, buy your music, your merchandise and buy into the whole Kimye/Kanye/Kim Kardashian circus.

I’ve never been in the situation (and cannot imagine a time when I ever will be) but like to think that if I had that kind of money to splash around, I’d be wanting to invest it where it could make a difference.

Agree? Disagree? What springs to mind for you when you read about money spent like this?

  • Seems like they are throwing money away. It would be great if they could throw some money in the direction of those in need.

  • Money should be evenly distributed; some on saving; some on charity and some on spending.

  • That sort of money would have been so much better spent on deserving charities and to help the needy. Such a waste of resources!

  • Obviously they have way to much money, and far to much time working out how to spend it, however it is theirs, they have no privacy, and if they want to wee in a gold toilet so be it, they would not be the first and wont be the last, At least they are spending money and keeping the economy going so they should get some credit for that but it does seem an incredible waste to the normal middle class person.

  • Out of interest; how does one clean a gold plated toilet? ;)

  • They are just a bunch of wannabes lacking class and will do whatever it takes for publicity.

  • sorry for the rant but it really does annoy me…..very counter productive

  • well they have so much money that they have to be extravagant to spend it! a $200 toilet would be nothing at all to them so spend a redic amount to get something that people will talk about. i know that they could feed starving people or give it to the poor but they don’t know how it feels to have had to really work or go without anything. but people think, this is the way all the celebs do it! also i have to whinge when i see mega rich celebrities endorsing companys and THEY ARE PAID HEAPS TO BE A SPOKESPERSON WHO IS ASKING REGULAR PEOPLE TO DONATE!!!!! geez i think, why don’t you be a spokesperson for free, get the company to donate on your behalf and donate your own money to the cause that apparantly, you love so much!!!!

  • Totally agree! When making decisions about whether to spend significant more on one object than another, I consider what that money could be used for by someone else. Choice between a $100 toilet, $250 and $10000 toilet? $100 toilet might be lower quality so you can justify spending more on something that will last and will look good in your home for many years. $10000 toilet is NOT going to last forever and involves spending the same amount of money as some people’s yearly wage!! Unnecessary.

  • I try very hard to ignore the Kardashians, because to be honest I think they’re horrible influences and examples in pretty much every single way.

  • I personally wouldn’t spend my money on stuff like that but if that’s where their interests lie then so be it! I’d have no problem busting an insanely large amount of money on every guitar I’ve ever wanted….

  • To answer your question, no I don’t agree that they need to splash the cash for anyone other than themselves. While I find these people frivolous, it’s their money. Why do we expect high income earners or the multi rich to subsidise others?

Plenty of the uber rich actually do give to charities but don’t advertise it all over the place. So how do we know they aren’t spreading the love?

  • Such wasteful beings.
Seriously, no one needs half the overpriced junk these people lavish themselves with.
Sharing the wealth with those that really need it comes to mind.

  • I couldn’t care less what they spend their money on, these people don’t even matter in my world.
