Hello!

Do you ever read those false advertising promises and actually fall for them? Usually, I don’t. I choose not to be so gullible as to believe everything I read.

This time was different, however. With COVID-19 so very present in the community as well as all the restrictions and social distancing measures in place.

I believed it would be a safer option to do my Easter Egg shopping online.

The email came through on Friday, a week before Easter, FIFTY PERCENT OFF Easter Chocolates, PLUS GUARANTEED arrival before Easter Sunday at no additional cost!

Too Good To Be True?

Sounds too good to be true right?

Well, it was!

I genuinely believed I was doing the right thing by ordering online. After all, the main message being given to everyone right now is ‘Stay at Home’ – unless leaving for work, to study, exercise or for essentials.

Chocolate didn’t really seem like an ‘essential’ item to me. And shopping online is just such a convenient option especially at a time like this.

Except it failed!

Am I The Only One?

I am confident that I am not the only one facing this predicament.

Although I placed my order on the Friday, with the cutoff being two days later, I am positive that many others spent that weekend placing their orders online. Trusting an advertisement and a company that just couldn’t meet the demand.

Public health and safety probably weighed heavily on people’s decision to take up this, unfortunately, deceiving offer.

BIG FAIL!

But…and you probably have already gathered this…..

Our chocolate eggs never arrived, as promised!

Who’s To Blame?

There would be many contributing factors that led to this massive failure.

Kmart will most likely blame Australia Post, Australia Post will blame public holidays and the reality is that these really are unprecedented times.

Is Chocolate Worth The Risk?

But now what? Where to from here?

Am I supposed to do the very thing I’ve been avoiding doing for over a month now and head on into the shops just to buy chocolate?

Do I risk catching COVID-19 for the sake of my family not missing out on Easter Eggs and then possibly also running the chance of passing it to all seven of my little ones if I do catch it?

Is it worth it?

Is chocolate really that important?

Or is there some other way around this unfortunate predicament?

What Else Can I Do?

Realistically my children are all too young to completely understand dates. I mean it would be far more difficult if they were older and kept track of things in diaries. But for now, I should be able to bluff my way through this without too much drama!

My choices….

1) Either we celebrate Easter Sunday as per usual, and I provide some sort of ‘I owe you’ letter from the Easter Bunny.

All I would need is a reasonable enough excuse, like the Public Safety Restrictions and then I could just leave the chocolates out whenever/if ever they arrive….and if they aren’t all smashed in transport!

2) Alternatively, I could push Easter back a week. We could celebrate it the same day as Orthodox Easter!

Either way I’m going to have to spring back from this. I will not allow Kmart to spoil our Easter.

It’s not going to be destroyed due to a lack of sugar!

Egg-scuses…egg–cuses

And I’m not about to waste hours of my time on the phone to Kmart Customer Support only to be given generic responses or excuses.

I don’t want to be told that I am more than welcome to refund my order once it arrives. And not really be given any sort of care or consideration – this is assuming that they would even be willing to refund food items!

How could they possibly afford the manpower to be able to display any genuine concern for their customers at this time in particular anyway?

Besides, being as big as what they are, Kmart isn’t going to lose shoppers just because of a few failed orders.

Adapt…Or…

In these unprecedented times perhaps the only way to succeed is by developing new strategies in order to cope. To be able to continue to experience what we once loved, we need to find ways of adapting to the unknown – to accept the uncertainty and make it work regardless of what obstacles we may face.

Look On The Bright Side

Because if we don’t think beyond ourselves and our own experiences, if we can’t extend compassion, especially at a time like this, who are we really impacting negatively other than ourselves?
My family has our health and each other at this present moment in time, which is a heck of a lot more than many others do. What more could we possibly need…

Kmart, You Messed Up!

Kmart, what you did was incredibly silly. There were many factors which you overlooked. Many things which you could have done differently.

However, it is what it is. Moving forward I hope you are able to take what you now know from this unparalleled experience and utilise it so as to not leave so many families in compromising situations again.

I hope you aren’t the reason why shops are flooded with customers trying to give their little ones a magical Easter and make up for undelivered Eggs during a time when we are being encouraged to stay at home.

If we don’t slow the spread of COVID-19, it won’t just be chocolate our children miss out on… and that is far scarier a thought than having to reschedule an Easter celebration.

  • Well I bought the ones I needed to buy when I did my essential weekly shop at our street strip shopping centre – everyone gives people the correct space, only 2 in the shop at once, and lots of pleasant smiles as our locals are kept in business.

  • Ordering chocolate online was already risky, it could have broken or melted and the you’d still be blaming Kmart.
To be honest auspost have been shocking, ordered something express post and it took over 3 weeks as opposed to the usual 2 days.

  • Luckily I was able to order mine from the local Yummylicious store. The owner set up a site just for this situation and we just met her outside her shop at a designated time. She would just meet you at the door with her eftpos machine and your order. It was a wonderful thing she did so no-one missed out. We’re a very small country town with very caring people
