Aussie songstress Kylie Minogue has spoken publicly about the impact of her cancer battle and how it destroyed her chance at motherhood…

Kylie Minogue has spoken openly for the first time about her experience with breast cancer and how it ruled out the possibility of becoming a mother. Kylie was diagnosed in 2005 at just 36 years old and says she is only now accepting the reality that she will never have children of her own.

Everything Changed

Speaking to The Sun, the Aussie songstress and Neighbours star said that the diagnosis turned her world upside down. “Realistically, you’re getting to the late side of things, and while that wasn’t on my agenda at the time, it changed everything,” she said. “Everyone will say there are options but I don’t know. I’m 50 now and I’m more at ease with my life.”

Based in the UK, and now in a relationship with GQ Creative Director Paul Solomons, Kylie says that she will always wonder what life with children would have been like. “I can’t say there are no regrets but it would be very hard for me to move on if I classed that as a regret,” she said. “I just have to be as philosophical about it as I can.”

Looking To The Future

Kylie is no stranger to the spotlight thanks to a number of high-profile relationships with other public figures including INXS frontman Michael Hutchence, French actor Olivier Martinez and Neighbours co-star Jason Donovan. Referring to some of these relationships as “mistakes” Kylie says her new relationship with Paul feels different. “I’ve met someone who I feel good with. It feels right.”

Having accepted the consequences of her cancer journey, Kylie says she is determined to make the most of her life and move forward. “You’ve got to accept who you are and get on with it,” she told the newspaper. We really admire Kylie’s positive outlook – sometimes things don’t go to plan but she has bounced back from countless challenges and remained at the top of her game. Fingers crossed that her new relationship with Paul and recently released album are the lights at the end of the tunnel.

  • I can only imagine how painful it would be for anyone unable to have a child. Having to go through cancer and not having a child is a cruel thing to suffer. Very sad.

  • I feel sad for Kylie as she has always expressed her want to have a family. I’m sorry for her that cancer has meant she has been unable to experience that.

  • How sad, I really fell for her. I feel very blessed too because I was diagnosed with a serious illness when I was in my 20’s and the specialist said I would never have kids or if I did I’d be putting my life at risk. Four children later, I’m thankful I tried.

  • Feel sorry for her not being able to have a baby – but maybe it’s nature’s way to stop that particular gene from reproducing. My daughter hangs on to that thought to get her through the same scenario and she is the same age .

  • My cousin had breast cancer, had her breasts amputated and was years under treatment and is now after 6 years till now under checks, but clear. Last year she had her miracle baby at age 48yr !! So it is possible.

    • She’s a beautiful strong women maybe adoption could be an option

      • Yes adoption is an option or fostering (I have 2 foster kids myself permanently under a guardianship order and sometimes extra temporary). Although the motivation to adopt / foster to fill an empty gap can be doubtful and should be investigated.

  • Such a strong woman to accept something this big

  • That must be a hard thing to come to terms with, but as long as she is at peace now, then she can live the rest of her life happily.

  • I wonder if it would have been possible to have retrieved undamaged eggs prior to surgery and whatever treatment.
