Bianca Grant and Stephen Curran welcomed their daughter during peak hour traffic delays.

They were on their way to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital on May 12, when they got stuck in peak hour traffic at 8.30am.

Mr Curran had two options mount the kerb or park and deliver the baby, reports Adelaide Now.

He decided to deliver the baby himself.

“I sort of panicked a bit,” Mr Curran says.

“Bianca was telling me to go round the cars, the ambulance on the phone told me to stay put.

“In the end, I just had to deal with it.”

About 30 minutes later, they welcomed Danica to the world, with ambulance crews assisting.

Ms Grant said parking near two busy cafes did not help the situation.

“People were walking by and everyone could hear my Jurassic-style screams from the car,” Ms Grant says.

“I had my feet on the dashboard and a bus pulled up next to us.

“We were trying to put up sheets in the windows to give us some privacy.

“The last thing I wanted was to end up on YouTube from someone taking a video.”

Mr Curran joked he would recommend it to other couples.

“We ended up getting it done pretty quickly,” he says.

“It was funny in a way. We can look back and laugh at the situation now because it had a happy ending.”

Nawww what a story to tell their little baby girl as she grows up.

  • Poor lady, can understand that she wanted her privacy and I imagine people would want to see what was happening. Glad there was a safe arrival!

  • Can I just add, labour pains and ANYTHING do not mix. When labour is happening, all you need is to concentrate on that, no distractions

  • Oh, fantastic news. A big “well done” to both parents for handling such an awkward situation so well. Welcome to the world Danica!

  • That would be so scary. I lived in a rural town with a hospital that doesn’t deliver babies. Do we had to travel 1 hour and 15minutes to the next town. It was the longest hour of my life and every pothole hit was 100 times worse than normal in labour. Thank goodness we made it in time though. I couldn’t imagine giving birth in the car. What a strong woman! (And dad!)

  • Oh my! I think I would have been so frightened if it had happened to me. They were both very brave. And with busy cafes and buses stopping close… not the ideal situation indeed. I’m glad that everything went fine!! :-)
