Nearly 30 years after Home Alone premiered, former child star Macaulay Culkin is reprising his role as Kevin McCallister — for a Google Assistant commercial.

The 38-year-old stars in a new ad for the AI assistant, in which he is yet again home all alone on Christmas.

But whereas in the 1990 movie Kevin went to great lengths to take care of himself while his parents were away — particularly when it came to fending off the Wet Bandits — in 2018, things are a whole lot simpler for Kevin thanks to his smart devices, shares Daily Mail.

The Home Alone star, who was 10 when he appeared in the 1990 film, is now 38

He recreates several of the memorable scenes in the film, including shaving and applying aftershave

In the movie Kevin screams after applying aftershave because it stings his face.

In the ad, the Home Alone star once again finds himself all by himself during the holidays — but this time he uses the Google Assistant to make everything run smoother.

As he steps into an empty room at the start of the commercial, he asks Google what’s on his schedule for the day — and the digital assistant replies reminding him that he has the house to himself.

He seems pleased and goes about his day, recreating moments from the original film.

He shaves and runs out of aftershave, and asks Google to add it to his shopping list. Also, being an adult now, he seems to know how to use it better, and fails to experience the stinging that Kevin did in the movie.

That maturity doesn’t stop him from jumping on the bed, but this time his body protests and his back starts to hurt as jumps. He also asks Google to remind him to clean the sheets later.

In the movie, when Kevin orders pizza, he avoids interacting directly with the delivery guy, lest he realize he’s a kid there by himself. Instead, he syncs up a movie to reply to the delivery person, telling him: ‘Keep the change, ya filthy animal.’

This time, Kevin doesn’t greet the man at the door either — but it’s because he doesn’t have to. He speaks to him through a home security system instead.

As he sits down to dinner — macaroni and cheese with a glass of milk — the clock strikes nine and he realizes it’s time to prepare the diversion.

In the film, this was an elaborate affair, with Kevin moving things with strings and a train set and other Rube Goldberg machines.

But this time, everything’s tied to the AI assistant.

All he has to do is say the word — ‘Begin Operation Kevin’ — and the lights turn on, the door locks, the fire in the fireplace ignites, a cardboard cutout atop a Roomba starts moving, and a dummy perched on a model train whizzes around the room.

This is enough to scare off the Wet Bandits surveying the home outside, and Kevin didn’t even have to lift a finger.

The new commercial is part of a string of recent appearances from Macaulay in which he references his Home Alone fame.
