Hello!

Thousands of shoppers put their health at risk to get their hands on this week’s Aldi special buys – a range of baby and kids’ clothing, children’s furniture and school resources.

Despite Victoria being in the midst of a second wave of COVID-19, eager parents ignored social distancing restrictions to gather outside the discount supermarkets to get a shot at securing Aldi special buys.

Pics have been circulating around social media showing shoppers queued closely together outside an Aldi in Epping, which is situated in one of Melbourne’s hotspots.

Worth The Risk?

One of the most sought after items on the Aldi special buys list was the wooden children’s table and stool set, selling for $69.99. Other popular products included a stackable toy storage cubby and an assortment of kids learning resources – none of which would be regarded as essential products.

Much of Victoria is now under lockdown and residents are only permitted to leave home for four reasons – shopping for food and supplies, care and caregiving, exercise, and study and work, if you can’t do it from home.

A child’s table and chair set would probably not be included in this set of ‘essentials’.

Don’t Care!

Many shoppers were so keen to get hold of the kid’s furniture set, that they didn’t really care that they weren’t obeying the social distancing laws.

One person was disgusted about the crowds rifling through the Aldi special buys to find clothing sizes and colours they were after.

“You should have seen people going through the Bonds stuff, they were literally on top of each other. I didn’t bother looking, coronavirus right there,” said one shopper.

STOP Aldi Special Buys!

Some people said Aldi should stop running their special buys in Victoria during the lockdown.

“Disgusting! It’s so irresponsible as people clearly cannot be trusted,” one comment read.

We know that when it comes to Aldi special buys, most people can’t help themselves and nothing will come between them and the item they’re after….not even a very contagious virus.

  • Thank goodness all this drama is over with now

  • Ridiculous and definitely not safe

    Reply

  • That’s terrible! Not safe!

    Reply

  • People forget about safety when it comes to getting a bargain. Not me.

  • I agree that perhaps these Special Buys should not be available at the moment. It really creates panic buying that is not needed at the moment.

  • Some people behave like Ostriches with their heads in the ground

    Reply

  • This is all rather inconsiderate behaviour. Stay home, wear a mask, wash your hands and practise social distancing.

  • I think all special buys should be put on hold indefinitely – it just encourages people to shop en masse and will certainly not be helping with trying to stop the spread of Covid!

  • Aldi should be stopping their special buys with the virus so strong in Victoria. If people can’t do the right thing with social distancing then the specials should not go ahead anymore. I’m sure if someone diving for those specials get the virus they are going to blame other people and not accept that they are equally to blame

  • No! Do people not realise they are putting other people’s lifes at risk. Aldi is being irresponsible at this stage in the Pandemic.

  • Don’t like the way ALDI works and sends all its profits back to Germany, so I don’t shop there at all. This is just another example of them not caring about the Australian people – just their profit.

  • No I do not think they should have their Special Buys at the moment. I would definitely not shop there first thing when they open on those Spec ial Buys days!

    Reply

  • Definately not surprised by this!! Aldi would have known from previous baby special buys how people get and perhaps should not have done it in Victoria!

  • It should be on a state by state basis and Victoria should not be allowed to get them. Also they need to start fining people a lot more.

  • Id prefer to see the special buys as online sales only. That will prevent people from buying more than they should and from risk of spreading Covid 19.

    • I have found it surprisingly easy to move to online shopping and also have been supporting local by shopping online.
